From TV Squad-Things I Hate About TV: When Keith Olbermann is on vacation
Keith Olbermann brings a certain... attitude... to his nightly newscast on MSNBC. He's bitingly sarcastic, self-deprecating and good-natured. The scripts for the newscast are heavily written by Olbermann himself, but his producers and writers obviously have his tone down and write the way he speaks. So, when Keith is on vacation and someone else fills in, the show really, really sucks. It used to be that Alex Witt filled in for Keith, but she didn't seem to know what she was reading. She read everything straight. Witt was apparently booted off in favor of Alison Stewart, who clearly understands Keith's wit and wisdom, but she still can't deliver his scripts. She tries too hard to be like Keith, but she obviously does not speak the way scripts are written. Bottom line: when Keith is on vacation, I don't watch.

As far as I can see it, there are three options: 1) Keith works 52 weeks a year, 2) MSNBC replaces Countdown with something else when he's on vacation, 3) Keith clones!

Hmmmmmm...that third option is an intriguing idea! ;-)

1. Yeah...nice, isn't it?
I'm sure Keith wouldn't mind, either. Imagine if there were enough Keith clones to do Countdown every night AND watch every baseball game being held in every major-league park across America all summer long, right through the World Series. Keith would be in hog heaven.

Then, of course, there could be a very nice business done in Keith clones produced for...ah...other purposes.

4. Remember the third clone in "Multiplicity?"
"Did you bring me a pizza?"

Guess there IS something to be said for the original.....

5. I do lurv Keith,
BUT, if he has to take a day off now and then, I'm glad when it's Alison filling in for him. I know she's not KO, but she's really cute, IMO, and good with the snark. Not great with snark, like KO, but pretty good.
Now if MSNBC could just replace Tweety with David Gregory, Rita with Rachel M., Bowtie Boy with Alison, and someone for Joe, maybe I'd watch more MSNBC. (actually any of the previous combinations for any of the awful hosts would work for me.)
(I really do like Alison-said in a very small voice....:) )
