Well McSame tried to kill me
last night, least that is who me and my mom are blaming. Instead I have not one but two broken feet. Broke my second metatarsal in my left foot and my right heel. Fell off a deck. My name is definitely not Grace. Will get back soon with more soon but haven't slept since yesterday and beyond tired and drugged for now. Will take any healing vibes anyone wants to send.:hi:

1. Oh no. My goodness.
 Well broken body parts are something we are VERY AWARE OF. Cassie JUST got her cast taken off yesterday. Now she has to learn to walk again. We know what you're going through.

From Cassie and Me, lots of hugs and good wishes.
Speedy recovery.

6. Thank you and you can tell Cassie
that even grown ups do silly things and break bones. Now the having to learn how to walk again sounds a bit scary. Right now I am just hoping for a hard cast on at least one foot so I can use crutches. This old farmhouse is not wheelchair friendly at all. I just remind myself it could of been so much worse.

2. Nonsense - it's a ferrett conspiracy!
They want their mommy home with them. They've been planning this since you went away and left them for a week.

They obviously didn't think this through, since they'll wonder why their food doesn't magically appear, or their laundry goes undone.

Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, OUCH!!!!! x( Keep yourself drugged - there's no need to be brave or tough it out. And check in here often so we can lift your spirits or relieve your boredom.

Love ya, Ferrettessa! :hug::hug::hug:

7. Finally made it upstairs for the first time since Thursday.
If it was a ferret conspiracy they sure blew it since they haven't seen me since I fell. lol And now they are going to have to learn that wheel chairs move and can run over toes.

It hasn't hurt so bad today so off the drugs until bedtime. Made Terry figure out a way for me to get a shower before I went nuts and since I made it upstairs decided to sit at a computer I could semi type on.

I see an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow so will find out more then. Never fall off a second story deck, it hurts. :) The up side is at least I got my feet under me and didn't land on my head or back.

Anyway, hope the painkillers kick in soon and you have a rapid healing! :grouphug:

9. Thanks.
I just remind myself it could of been worse. The doctor probably thinks I am crazy since me and my mom laughed the whole time. Figured it was better than crying and better pain control according to him.

11. You're an inappropriate laugher too?
Me and my mother sometimes become well, amused by things, at funerals. If the preacher has a badly fitted toupe or the singer is off key watch out. We don't laugh out loud like Mary Richards at Chuckles the Clown's funeral but, as the Duke of Wellington once said, it's a close run thing.

12. Sending all kind of good vibes your way, CC.
Posting from the library right now. A year ago I was in the same situation as yourself and I know how you feel.

Take good care of yourself and good luck with the ortho surgeon tomorrow.

13. I missed what caused this...
I've caught an unfortunate event including a balcony and gravity, but that's about it. Can someone shed some light?

Hope you're feeling better soon! The drugs help, but don't get addicted :)

14. That is because I haven't really given
details. Part because I am on a laptop that I can hardly type on and part because it was so stupid. Guess I should though.

Slowed down on the pain killers. I hate the stuff so less likely to get addicted but good to know people out there besides me warn others. :) I tell them they will turn into a Limbaugh type person.

15. Update
Saw the ortho today. The right heel is broke but not so bad that he would have to do surgery on it. Got a boot for it and if I behave and wear it most of the time he won't put a cast on it. Still need to stay off it as much as possible and let it heal.
The left foot is a mess. One clean break on that second metatarsal that should heal ok. The problem and pain is that I shifted the whole front of my foot about a half inch to the left and crunched all the rest of the bones. (Other 4 metatarsals and where they join the ankle.)I also tore any an all ligaments and tendons holding them together. It is still really swollen so he can't do anything yet. Wednesday it gets a CT scan then hopefully surgery on the 18th. He has to go in and realign all the bones where the are suppose to be then pin everything together. Gives me the heebee jeebies to even think about it.

As to what happened. Yes you are allowed to laugh and I know most will not understand. Oh well. First you need to know I am afraid of heights and refuse to even climb 3 steps up a ladder.

Thursday night I got all the pets settled early so I could go upstairs and work on some Maui photos before the convention coverage started. I went out onto the second story deck to top off the bird feeder. Since I share the second story with the ferrets I shut the sliding door behind me to prevent escapes. I filled the feeder and went to open the door. It moved about an inch and stopped. The safety bar fell into the tracks. Some cussing later and trying to force the door with no luck I know I am screwed. No one else is around, Ter won't be home until later Friday night.
I found a wire and spent about 2 hours trying to move the bar with no luck. I even tried to get the ferrets to get curious and scratch at it. No luck. I waited to see if the neighbor that might hear me would come outside, then tried shouting for them. They couldn't hear me.
Then suddenly I need to go to the bathroom. Things are worse and it has been dark for a while now. I start looking at the lower deck. Damn that is a long way down and I am a fat little old lady. No way can I get down there. Try yelling some more. Keep looking at the lower deck. Been dark a long time now. The dogs need to go out at least once more, the cat needs his insulin. I have got to get off this deck.
I look around for something anything. No rope or even a leash left out. Burned up any luck with the wire. So think, ok if I go over at the corner, lower myself slowly to the support post I can shimmy down. I can always remove splinters. I work up the courage to climb over the rail and hang on for dear life. Breathe a bit and build up my courage again. Slowly start to go down lower only there is a problem. The 2x2 pickets are only about a half inch from the 4x4 I want to grab for dear life. Ok grab the pickets and go down fast so I can get to the 6x6 support. Got 2 feet down the pickets and hear the sound of wood screeching. The picket has separated from the rail and I am falling backwards. I tried to grab anything. I have the scratches everywhere to prove that. lol No luck again and then things go into slow motion. I'm falling and no way to stop it. Then I just tried to get my feet under me so they hit first. I knew I was dead if I landed on my head or back and poor Terry would come home and find me there the next night.
Somehow I landed on my feet...HARD. Did think to bend my knees and make myself land on my well padded butt. Laid there for a minute then got to my knees. I crawled to the back door only to find that I locked it earlier.(Front door was locked too.) Tried breaking the window, no luck there. I pull myself up. I know something broke in my left foot. I could only put weight on my heels.
I hobble down the deck, through the backyard, then the side yard, across the street and through Carol's front yard to pound on her door. I called my mom, Carol called an ambulance and off I went to make the doctors and nurses in the emergency room laugh. They did but so did I. They did not want me to cry. Five hours later I am on the way to mom's.I keep getting told how much worse it could of been. That I knew and keep reminding myself of how lucky I really was. Never did get in to take care of the animals. Even better the dogs never never in the house even after 27 hours. Good puppies!

Please ignore typos. Hate not having a split keyboard.

this around here :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: and some of this  and :cringe: which has no smiley. Since I didn't blow out my knees, hip or back all the medical personal tell me I am very very lucky. I keep that in mind so I can laugh. Adding, the emergency room doctor told me if I kept hurting to come back and they would admit me. She said since I was laughing through it all she knew I was no wimp that would cry wolf. lol

I think it was the door shutting caused the bar to fall. I didn't know it was there and not in the far corner. It was Pixel that kind of tried to did the bar out but couldn't. The cat should of helped instead of meowing.

21. My apologies to Pixel.
Poor Mommy!

Watch yourself carefully, and if it gets worse instead of better, DO NOT HESITATE to go back.

Oh, and one more question: why do you have a safety bar on the second floor? Obviously, nobody is going to be able to break in. :P

22. It was for when we were on
vacation. Extra layers since the house would be empty and made Susan feel safer. lol Also I know that a fairly young in shape male can climb up onto the same second story deck and get in the house. Just fat out of shape old ladies should never try going down from the same deck.

You can semi blame the ferrets since if they weren't in here I would of left the door open.

23. I understand completely....
I could see myself in a predicament like this, and I would probably react much the same. I am a notoriously clumsy person. I've tripped on a carpet fiber and landed flat on my face, dislocated my shoulder. Like you, I usually end up laughing my way through the pain, because the way I've hurt myself, usually involves some interesting story that would never happen to anyone else, the kind where people stop me, and say, "You were doing what?" or "Now why were you on the roof?". Completely normal to me, but others just shake their heads.

I'm glad you weren't hurt any more than what you were. Heal well and soon, and know that there is at least one other person "out there" that finds your unusual set of events, completely understandable.

25. Of course I chuckled...
as only one who has been there can do.

You told the story well. It's nice to know there are others who find themselves in these strange little pickles.

I got stuck on the roof once. It's not like the ladder fell over or anything, I just couldn't get myself to let go of the roof edge to go down it. I sat there and thought about how long it would be before my sun-shriveled mummy would be discovered, and what a mystery it would be to the police and the coroner...

"This is the damnedest case I've ever had. Why didn't she come down? Odd, very odd."

It's funny the odd things that go through your head when you find yourself in a picklement. I was stuck there for quite a while, so I had some time to think.

Again heal well. You could work on training all your critters to wait on you....yeah, that'll happen, right? If your critters are anything like mine, servitude is not high on their list!

Take care, CC!
