I think I'm going to have to withdraw from GD again in its various forms.
It's gotten ugly out there again, as a result of people who seem to think the only effective way to win this election is to:

--trump up a story about Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol being Trig's real mother, complete with elaborate plot to pass off the pregnancy as her mom's (whether or not it's true, mind you; the only thing that really matters is causing the irreparable damage done by mere rumor alone)

--ridicule Palin as being stupid (mind you, I didn't say "unqualified to be VP," I said STUPID) because her college degree is in journalism. And, oh yeah, it's from the University of Idaho. Why, that's a STATE school! Everyone knows state schools SUCK, hahahahahaha! And IDAHO? I mean, how can IDAHO possibly offer anyone a good education? Bwahahahaha.

I don't know what it is, whether it's that Karl Rove has turned Dems batshit crazy or what. But all of a sudden there's people who think that if these two memes are not disseminated widely among the general public, BARACK OBAMA WILL LOSE THE ELECTION and it will be ALL OUR FAULT! Because we were too nicey-poo and didn't go for the jugular by attacking Sarah Palin as a dimwitted j-school graduate who is trying to pass off her oldest daughter's illegitimate Down's Syndrome child (which, for all we know, could have been fathered by her FATHER!!--or her BROTHER!!) as her own!

And these people have the nerve to laugh at freepers and PUMAs obsessed with analyzing Obama's birth certificate and wasting precious time trying to disqualify him based on his supposed place of birth and citizenship?

If this is what some Dems think they have to be like, I want no part of it.

There is such a thing as allowing your enemy to defeat you merely by letting fear of him drive you into becoming LIKE your enemy. The "Monsters Are Coming to Maple Street" syndrome that Keith has pointed out many a time.

I thought we were against that shit. I thought that was why we were against the PATRIOT Act and FISA and all the other constitutional rights-infringing garbage. Because if we take away our own rights out of fear of terrorists, the terrorists won't even have to do it for us.

The idea was, we should be driven by an emotion more positive than FEAR.

At least, I thought it was.

Now, some people are letting their FEAR of losing this election drive them to not only say stupid and ugly things about someone without being able to ground them in fact, but to INSIST that they HAVE to because the alternative is LOSING THE ELECTION, and anyone who would infringe upon their right to do so is an Evil Censor and a Traitor Who Wants Us to Lose.

Amazing.

It's back to the KOEB for me.
