10. Had to cancel.
Too much to do before next week (annual conference in Madison, Sun-Wed). Plus there were some bad storms in the area (tornado warning in the next county) - I thought it was a sign to stay put. O8)

I liked the link between the "re-patriot act" and the 9/11 memorial. Kind of helps keep things in perspective.

We've had a couple of wall-clouds pass nearby, but no funnels in sight.

110. Sweetie, I'm not convinced that we're "twister-free" yet.
I hear thunder, see dark clouds, and it is eerily still.

But I agree, a game of Twister would be a scream. You go first.

R = Right; L = Left.

There is no "moderate" in Twister. And in addition to Red and Blue, we also offer Green and Yellow. (coincidentally, Packers colors :) )

120. Hi Guys.
I was at my little one's softball game tonight. Seems like all activities are scheduled during the KO early show.

Just got finished sending Sensenbrenner a note. I am so shaken up by this latest shameful example of the Republicans abuse of power and efforts towards one-party rule. Do you mind if I post the letter I wrote here. I'm thinking of sending a copy of it to Keith. Did he cover Sensenbrenner's shameful activities tonight on the show, I haven't read down the thread yet. I'll post it here first, and you guys can tell me whether or not I should send it on to KO. Not sure what he can do except somehow try and get across the growing alarm and distress ordinary citizens are feeling about the nazification of our nation.

Here goes, I was so angry I forgot to hit spellcheck so it's probably got lots of mistakes:

Dear Congressman Sensenbrenner,

I am writing to you with shock, and dismay at your behavior today in shutting down a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee in reference to the Patriot Act.

Just in case you are not aware, we still live in a Democratic Republic where Congressmen and women are paid and given the solemn responsibility to represent the people of this proud country, the United States of America. The minority party that you showed such little respect for today represents just under half of the citizens of the US who voted in the last election, some 49 million people, as well as the millions of Americans who did not cast their votes but who still will be affected by the laws passed by Congress. It is unconscionable and most likely illegal for you to have done what you did today.

To simply decide to end the hearing on the subject and shut off the microphones of Democratic reprentatives trying to express the will of the people they represent is reprehensible. We do not have a one-party system in this country although it seems as if many of you in power would be quite content to have it that way.

Is it only the majority in this country that deserves to be heard Congressman Sensenbrenner? The last I heard, this government was created of, by and for the people and should not be subject to the shameful abuse of power you so clearly demonstrated today. You owe the American people an apology and the hearings should be reconvened as soon as possible with no further illegal maneuverings on your part. Perhaps you should step down as the House Majority leader of the Judiciary Committee. You don't seem to be honorable enough to hold such an important position.

Sincerely,
xxxxxxxxx

135. Hi, Bunny
Just saw this now as I'm waiting for Dave to get ready to go to the movies. Great letter. I watched the rerun of the hearing on C-Span last night and was appalled. KO did not talk about it. I was almost ready to turn it off and go to bed, but I read about the Senselessbrenner escapade on DU and decided to stay up to watch the rest. I am so appalled at the gall of these people and their abuse of power. I'm starting to feel like we'll never get the system fixed (at least not during my lifetime). It's very depressing.

Have a great weekend. Yes, you should send it to KO. Maybe he'll talk about the hearing on Monday.

136. I did send it to him. I hope he covers the story.
I am so worried that this is exactly what they'll try to do to Conyer's hearing on DSM. Perhaps that was the reason this was done, to set the precedent. Every little increment of this abuse of power is so alarming. This was really bad. I no longer feel like a frog cooking in a pot of lukewarm water turned up one degree at a time, I'm feeling the heat now.

Let's hope there is lots of coverage of this on Monday in a variety of media, don't hold your breath though.

125. Usually.
There is a book I'm going to start reading that was recommended by Thom Hartman on his program. The author is a German man named Milton Meyer, the book is called 'They Thought They Were Free, the Germans 1933 - 1945. It was written in 1955 and is a first hand account of what it was like for citizens of Germany leading up to Hitler's complete control of the country. Did they notice their freedoms being eroded, did they know what was happening to their country while it was happening. What did they try to do about it. Thom Hartman read some excerpts from the book today and they were chilling. It is happening here now Sparky and I am very, very frightened.

Not frightened enough to not try and do anything about it though.

but the judges are the key. Very few truly progressive laws have come from legislation in the last century, the courts have done the work. A woman's right to choose, integration, a semblance of equal rights regardless of gender or race. If gay marriage is ever going to expand past Massachusetts, which was created by the court, it's going to also come from the courts.

agreement'that was reached as a compromise to avoid losing the filibuster. The Republican's have no intention of honoring any agreement they made to keep the filibuster if we let those three wingnut judges through without a fight. They are completely without honor and they will reintroduce their efforts to do away with the filibuster as soon as they possibly can. They are pond scum.

What do have in store for them if they try it again, which Fristula certainly will.

132. Playing the political game, through the press
Our people should promote the agreement every chance they get. Every damn Sunday talk show. How they're willing to honor the agreement as long as the judges are fair. In the new spirit of bipartisanship, even give the repugs Bolton. It really doesn't matter much, no other country trusts us now, or will until blivet ** is out of office. Bolton is irrelevant. Then, if Frist tries to go nuc, we can point to all we gave, the 3 judges, Bolton, and appeal directly to the people. If he went nuc then, we'd pick up big in 06. I could be wrong, but it could work.

OK, so I missed out Friday. But I'm almost done watching my tape (I had to zap through the Pres dog #1 story because it was getting close to 8 in real time so I will have to go back and watch it again).

Having been away all weekend, I am here to tell you: Yes, cat pee is flammable. It certainly inflamed me.

Laughed at the pot reference--thought "Friday night again, Patsy's gotta be happy!"

But I must confess...I was rather surprised that no one commented on the blatant shout-out on my latest segment of Gull Bay...i.e., Keith's decision to devote a large chunk of the show to discussing the "curse of the Chicago Cubs." *ahem* ahem*...

And that "bill of sale" for the Bambino made me laugh, because I thought "What?!? It was just sold for an astronomical amount of money...and the buyer WASN'T Keith???"
