This case in Houston is very sad-- children found today
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5847134.html

I live in Houston, TX and this case has been the top story in our area since last Sunday, Father's Day. Two children, Randy Sylvester Jr. aged 7 and his sister, Denim Sylvester aged 3, were playing outside. When their mother went to tell them to come inside, they were gone. Houston authorities have been looking for the children all week, to the point of almost draining a pond in the area, after the father told them that was where they would find them. Unfortunately (and infuriatingly, may I add) the children were not 'eligible' to be coded as an 'Amber Alert', so several hours were lost initially, trying to determine their whereabouts. Ultimately, suspicion fell on the father, who eventually led authorities to the children's bodies early this morning. The children were found in a trunk and a suitcase, partially incinerated. This makes me weep, when you see their precious faces, how anyone, much less a father, could do this to his own children....

1. Heartbreaking
I will never understand how a parent could do this to their children. I hope his trial is swift and he is locked up forever.

2. we're in Texas-
so there's a pretty good chance he's going to get the death penalty. There was an article in today's paper here, saying it was taking the coroner longer than usual to come up with a cause of death. The coroner is having to call in anthropologists to help him because of the condition of the bodies.

The father is now saying that he didn't actually kill the kids. He's saying that he owed someone $5000, and since he couldn't pay it, the kids were killed. His wife and authorities are saying he was heavily into drugs, and that leads me to think he's so messed up mentally that he's just spewing stuff, now that he's probably realized what he did to his kids, and can't come to terms with the fact that he's responsible.

Its a sorry story.
