Was Charlie Brandt a Serial Killer?
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/05/25/48hours/main1655084_page7.shtml

"Here's the thing about Charlie Brandt that's disturbing — beyond what we already know is disturbing in how he commits his crimes," says D'Ambrosia. "He's very well traveled. For many years, he has traveled all over the United States and even outside the United States."

More than 30 years had elapsed from the time he shot his mother until he killed his wife and niece, and what investigators desperately want to know is how many other crimes Charlie Brandt committed.

D'Ambrosia doesn't think we'll ever know how many murders Charlie is responsible for. But she is working with Hemmert and a task force from around the state to at least try to narrow it down...

1. Wow, what a story!
Compelling read. Thanks for posting it.

So, Charlie decapitates his victims and cuts out their hearts, and despite in-depth psychiatric analyses, no one can figure out what sets him off.

I have an idea he's committed more murders than those already attributed to him.

2. My guess is that he committed many, many more
:-(. All these years that I have been a true crime buff, I am still surprised by the depravity...

3. I recently saw this 48 Hours program on cable
I think he must have committed more murders. I would also think, due to the absolutely bizarre way in which he murders his victims, that somehow, someway, there must be a way to figure out how many more murders could be attributed to him. Is there a national or world-wide database of unsolved murders and distinguishing 'features' of the murders that could somehow figure this out?

4. The NCIC database?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCIC

Not sure if this includes the MO of a crime or criminal...
