1. Getting very good reviews so far
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/zodiac

I'll probably wait until it comes out on DVD, unfortunately. I'm dealing with some lower back issues and the thought of sitting in a theater seat right now doesn't sound appealing, but I'm looking forward to seeing this eventually. :)

3. Sorry to hear about your back...
We'll save you a seat.

Now, I hope they don't change too many of the details.

2. I'm looking forward to seeing it
Robert Downey Jr. is in it, which is a HUGE plus for me! He's always good, so I'm excited- Chloe Sevigny is also in it, and she's usually in quirky, unusual, good films. There's a thread in the Lounge where someone went to a preview of it, and they were saying it was a bit long. And (get this) some were saying as they left the theater, that the didn't like the ending! As the OP in that thread, said, you can't pick the ending on this one. Its a true story!

4. Can't wait until the DVD comes out
I'm not one much for theaters, so I'll wait. It looks like it will worth the wait.

6. So - did any TCers see this?
A friend of mine (not a TC buff) saw it and said she thought it was too long and a little boring in parts, but I'm interested in the group's opinion. :)

8. Very compelling movie. And no boring parts (imho). Here's my review:
"First of all, I'm cutting to the chase--it was a great movie. And here's one reason why: it was beautifully, beautifully filmed. I'm so glad to have seen it on the big screen. It was richly and accurately set for the times--the majority of the film is set in the late 60's to mid 70's and everything was just right, but not overly done with cliched 70's stuff. The lighting was perfect too in every scene. It was visually very pleasing. Some breath-taking shots of San Fransisco--especially an aerial of the Golden Gate bridge in the fog (but the best one I've ever seen), and one of the TransAmerica building being built in one amazing shot.

The movie was taut with suspense. It was over 2 and 1/2 hours long but it never felt like it. Even though it's based on a true story, which it kept very true to, it still reminded me of a suspenseful Hitchcock film.

Jake Gyllenhall and Robert Downey Jr. were excellent. They are exceptional actors. Downey could very well score a best supporting actor Oscar nod (imho)."

10. i know someone who was a consulatant. he says- lies,
all lies. i will post a little more about this as soon as i get some time, but this guy is somewhat of an expert on zodiac, and says that almost everything in the movie is rebutted by police reports and known evidence. he is going to put up a scene by scene rebutal on his website. but he was a paid consultant, and thinks that they paid him mostly to try to co-opt him. says the books and the movie are pure bullshit.
promise to link tomorrow.

12. The movie says it is "based on" Robert Graysmith's Zodiac book
and Graysmith was a consultant on the movie. Interview with Graysmith:
http://www.cinematical.com/2007/03/02/interview-zodiac-author-robert-graysmith/

I don't think it sells itself as being anything other than the above and there are LOTS of theories about Zodiac. http://www.zodiackiller.com/

13. i am by no means an expert.
in fact, i have not seen the movie yet. all i know is that i know this guy. according to him, most of what graysmith says is not supported by police reports, and known facts of the case. he also said that his dealing with the movie makers was excruciating, since he tried to let them know what was wrong. they kept calling him, but then being pissed off when he told them they were wrong.
he has a book that is almost ready to publish. i will let y'all know when that happens.

14. I'd be interested to read that fellow's book too.
The movie made me more interested in the case for sure.

Thanks for the info. :hi:

15. I read through the linked site.
And although the site claims that the movie is false false false, I don't see any sources besides other internet sites or some documentaries from Amazon. I don't know. He might be 100%, but I'd prefer to see that the creator of that site actually read the police reports himself. One link on the source page was to a MySpace page (perhaps the creator of the site?) who had a "friend" on there calling himself Arthur Leigh Allen with the actual photo of the Allen connected to the Zodiac case. It seems a bit... less than academic in it's presentation.
