Ironworkers' competition set at Akwesasne

http://www.pressrepublican.com/homepage/local_story_194051526.html

AKWESASNE -- St. Regis Mohawk ironworkers and other American Indian steelworkers will be honored today at the Ironworkers Festival at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino.

The sixth-annual day of celebration and competition for men, women and retired ironworkers starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Route 37 gaming facility.

More than $12,000 in prizes will be awarded, and entertainment, food vendors and a chicken barbecue are planned.

Retirees of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers union take center stage when they compete in three events:

Knot tying is where participants tie five knots in the fastest time they can.

Rebar tying is another timed speed-skill event, where the competitors finish as many correct ties as possible.
