What's your ride?
Mine? I currently own a '91 Toyota Corolla that just hit 100K miles. The body is showing a little bit of rust, but it rides like brand new and I maintain it religiously. I have few problems with it (Toyotas are super dependable) and if I do, I can usually feel it coming.

I may upgrade this summer, and may get a Camry, or a Honda or Chrysler product (I sell cars for a living and have been impressed with the stuff coming out of Chrysler over the past decade or so). I'm not up to the 300C/Crossfire level yet, but I've driven a few Sebrings and I actually like them. A nice, comfortable ride with some decent pep, even in the 2.4 base motor.

1. 1996 Audi A4 Black
2.8 L V6 engine.

Ronal 17" sport rims
Sumitomo low profile all-season tires
Black E-code projector headlights
Chrome side view mirrors (2004 S4 style)
White side turn signals
2000 A4 fog lights custom installed (by me)

I'm getting it washed this weekend...hopefully it'll be a good tome to take a picture with the new rims and headlights.

I hope to custom paint some new brake lights because I can't stand the amber colored rear blinker lights. It looks horrible with an all black/chrome car. I am painting the new brake/rear blinker lights red and "smoking" them come spring.

3. She (he) sounds
real pretty. Audi's are beautiful vehicles. We had an S4,'00 for 3 yrs, leased. Think we talked about this before but it was a real lemon. Good thing it had that bumper to bumper warranty because just about everything was replaced. I drove an A4 Avant, the 1.7(?) when I was car shopping. I liked it a lot. Got sold before decided. It was the special anniversary edition and didn't have the xenons so just as well. Looking forward to the pic.

4. '88 Volvo 740 Turbo
For a vehicle with just over 180K miles, he still does us very well; more maneuverable than I ever thought a mid-80's Volvo would be, and he still is a sub 8-second car.

Our past three cars have been RX-7s, though. Man, I miss them! But there's just no room for two adults and a carseat...

1999 Corolla which gets an honest 30 mpg in city driving. Decent acceleration, too.

6. '95 Mazda Miata for my daily driver...91 Astro for hauling.
Bought the Miata new in Mar. of '96 after having owned a used '92 for 6 months. The '92 didn't have limited slip and was terrible for autocrossing. (Heck of a reason to buy a new car, eh?)

Bought it on a Friday night, raced it the following Sunday. Put in two full seasons in TN Region SCCA (C Stock Novice points crown and TN Region SCCA Solo 2 Rookie of the Year in '96, plus C Stock points Champ. in Tri-Lakes Sports Car Club) Ran it somewhere every Sunday from Mar. thru Nov. of '96, then tricked it out with full Ground Control Coilovers, Koni adjustables, Eibach sways, header, custom exhaust, custom intake, etc. and ran another full season in C Street Prepared in TRSCCA and Tri-Lakes in '97, winning points championships again in class in both clubs.

Then wife and I had kids, and the racing budget changed to diapers. A few years later the car got stripped of all it's mods to pay for divorce lawyers. :(

Still my daily driver 9 years later, now with approx. 135k on the clock and still hasn't had the first wrench turned on it in repair. Been through a few sets of tires, 3 sets of plugs, 1 set of plug wires, 1 battery, 2 sets brake pads and regular oil changes. Despite being bounced off the rev limiter a few dozen times each weekend for the first two years of it's life, it's been a perfect car.

29mpg highway with cruise set at 80 and the air on (on regular unleaded to boot!), cheaper to insure than a Honda Civic and at least as reliable of not moreso, and will outcorner darn near anything on the road stock, and almost uncatchable in the curves when modified.

Can you tell I love this car?

I've come through a lot of "sports" cars over the years, having owned Rabbit GTI, Nissan 280ZX, 300ZX, Eclipse AWD Turbo, and while all were good cars, none have ever been as much pure unadulterated fun to drive.

Glad to see some fellow dems. here who aren't of the persuasion all cars are somehow "evil" to own.

:toast: Cheers!

7. 02 Mustang convertible
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 11:25 PM by onager
First of all, thanks for this Gearhead Group!

I bought my car in March 03 from an Enterprise Rent-A-Car lot. (A great way to buy a car, IMO.) I live in Los Angeles, so I wanted a convertible (again). For months, I kept an eye on the local Enterprise web site, watching the used cars.

Briefly I thought about going for a Chrysler convertible, but then this loaded, Arrest-Me-Red Mustang appeared on the web site, and I have a LONG history with red ragtops. (I once owned a 68 GTO and 67 Firebird 400 convertible at the same time, BOTH red. That was in the late Eighties, when I had a big yard. Now I live in a townhouse. Back then, I spent most weekends at Pick-Yer-Part...)

Since this was an ex-rental, I wanted the lowest mileage and best condition possible. This one had 18,000 on it and looked great.

It still does. The other day a really cute girl rolled down the window of a mini-van and yelled, "I love your car!" Now if she had only been older than, uh, about 9...:-(

8. '99 Accord
115,000 miles.

Nice car. Runs like new. Trunk lid is beginning to rust.

Of course, I live in the Lake Effect zone of New York State, where we have to deal with an average of 100 inches of snow a year. That's eight feet and change, people. They salt the piss out of the roads, so if you want to know which cars are more or less likely to rust, come up to Utica, Syracuse, or points north.

Detroit's dirty little secret - American cars will still dissolve faster than Japanese cars, even the ones made in the US.

9. I've got several vehicles that I drive.....
a 2000 GMC Yukon is my newest and I only have 24k on it. I use it mainly in the winter and when the weather is too bad to drive my other ones. I've will have had it 6 yrs. I tend to drive one of my 2 73-Plymouth Fury's during the summer. I saved one from California crusher and it gets better mpg than the truck. I also have a 1947 Chevy street rod that I tend to use as a regular car. It was done some 12yrs ago by a friends son. He put he body on a Monte Carlo chassis and it rides like a dream

10. 1994 Infiniti G-20
104,000 miles and still runs like a top. Now that I've put new struts all the way around, it's got that "corners on rails" feeling back. Once the weather stays nice for a while, I'm going to give it a wash and wax, so it starts looking as good as it runs.

12. Brand spanking new 05' Porsche Boxter S
My local dealership had one Boxter and one Boxter S in the new 05' lineup. One test drive, and I was sold, I have the only one in town, until June when they get more 05' models. 280 horsepower, all leather interior, metallic midnight blue, 6 speed manual, with Carrera rims and a Bose stereo with 7 speakers. The extras ran the price up to within 12 grand of a stripped Carrera, but I figured a peach of a Boxster was better than a bare bones Carrera. Plus the body style is much better than previous models, I must admit I get a lot of looks. It is a blast to drive the local mountains, the car seems to have a mind of its own taking the curves. My wife was so envious that she dumped her car off on her parents and we went back to the Porsche-Audi dealership and she got an 05' Audi A4 Anniversary Edition.

I kind of like the looks of my garage now........

14. Subaru is number one for dependability
I couldn't find the link, but I spotted it on Yahoo News today. My wife's car was a Subaru, we gave it to her mom, and she got the Audi. You can't wear them out.

The WRX is a great idea on the part of both companies. Match German performance with a company already known for reliability. You can't lose.

Safe driving, if your like me, you test the Boxster engine every day.

15. 89 Olds Ciera 193k mi,, bought new in 89
So far I've always bought em new and kept em till it goes to he junk yard.

73 Scamp
81 Accord 5 speed
and the 89 Ciera

I do all electrical fixes myself, never do suspension or exhaust stuff.

In planning for the death of the Ciera I rented the Sebring convertible during my vacation and liked it. the new gadgets that got me most was the radio controls in the steering wheel.
