Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 07:33 PM by Dr Fate
Pick a genre & an example.

I love Uncle Scrooge, old Archies, old Howling Commandos, jack Kirby era Kid Colt and- heh-you have-ta admit the art in Housewives at Play is pretty hot!

1. Little Lulu!!!
Once a month, my weekly allowance of 10¢ went to L/L. Not 'xactly a genre, but my all time favorite comic book and little philosopher. Okay, I'm not hip!

4. Thanks, I started collecting them in the 70s to have them again
I have a fair stack. They were reprinted over and over, so gettng them as "readables" isn't too pricey.

Btw, I also love the old romance ones, too. I can see why they became campy. As a little girl in the early 50s, I dreamed of wearing lipstick like the women in the stories. And those tears they wept were more like floods.

5. I just noticed previews just started carrying D&D comics again

I hated elf quest, but i am talking about dragon lance chronicles, and the Drittz Do' Urden books by Devil is Due Publishing. Those look right up my alley. Side note one I never liked conan, side note two I love the new Angel IDW series.

7. I forgot "Fantasy" & Sci-Fi- but those are basically "hero" oriented
THen again, so are War & Western comics- as Alan Moore said- they are super heros in drag.

9. I don't think you can lump all sci-fi/fantasy in with superhero
To me, superhero implies someone with unnatural abilities and powers. so, all your standard costumed guys fall in that category.

But where do you stick preacher? Granted, supernormal abilities, but it just ain't a superhero book.

And From Hell? where does that fall?

or for that matter, most of Warren Ellis' stuff (transmet, Desolation Jones, etc)

Is Johnny the Homicidal Maniac in the horror category or the humor category?

I think swords and sorcery should be a category, as well as strict sci-fi (like switchblade honey).

10. From Hell is "Horror"
But you are right- it's tough to categgorize all these great titles.

11. Sci-Fi!
I have almost the entire Marvel Star Wars series from the 70s. I also love Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing.

Other than that, I like retro sci-fi comics, like the Superman: Man of Tomorrow Archives and old Adam Strange Comics. These could also fit in the Superhero category.

12. Have you checked out Russ Manning's Mangus the Robot Fighter?
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 11:52 AM by Dr Fate
I have not bought the new bound volumes yet- but it looks great- the art reminds me of old Legion issues. It's a Sci-Fi series from the '60s.

I had never heard of it until I saw the re-issues, but it looks great.

13. Never heard of it...
Might have to check into.

Or, more likely, might have to wait until I get paid!
