X3: Kelsey Grammer is Hank McCoy
Edited on Thu May-19-05 03:43 AM by Kire
Kelsey Grammer is Beast in X-Men 3!

ComingSoon.net/SuperheroHype.com got a chance to talk to Marvel Studios President and CEO Avi Arad on Tuesday afternoon about X-Men 3 and he revealed new details about the anticipated third installment.
.....

"And movie three features Angel, Beast, Kitty Pryde and Juggernaut. Right there you have worth the price of admission. And there are more, those are just the ones we can talk about. Juggernaut you had it already on your site, that is Jones. That was accurate. Angel is not done yet, we're looking at a few guys, but it's a big role, so... we are very close, a few more days. Angel is a great emotional story. It's a very big role in this movie and so is Kitty Pryde, where we have some high choices that are great but it's just not locked up yet." Lost star Maggie Grace is in talks for the role.

Then we got to Beast. "It was the best man for the job. The name is... Kelsey Grammer! If you would have seen his read. It is kinda weird when you think about it for a second, and the key was with the X-Men movies is get the best man for the job. He blew us out of the park. Yeah, yeah, and he's also my neighbor..." As we laughed, Arad reassured us that the "Frasier" star is the right man for the job. "When you look at it you see how again we are continuing with inspired choices."

So what can we expect Grammer's Beast to be like? "Super intelligent. A pacifist Ph.D as he should be. I cannot tell you what he does in the movie because it's an amazing... it's a very big role in this movie. The subject matter of this movie, we don't take Beast lightly. It was someone that we didn't take into one and two because we were busy with other characters and Beast needs to be a centerpiece... and so is Angel, they had to be centerpieces. Too much going on within the story, the origin."

1. Funny as this might sound....
I've always imagined Hank McCoy would have that pronounced 'intellectualism' to his voice.

And if anyone can do that - It's Kelsy Grammar.

- but I'm haveing a great deal of trouble putting his face on the frame of 'The Beast'... and being blue....etc.

2. you ever watch the X-man saturday morning cartoon?

There's no imagining with that. It's real.

And nobody has more "pronounced intellectualism" in their voice than Kelsey Grammar. I couldn't see Alan Cumming being blue as Nightcrawler before X2 came out, either. That's why I'm as excited as a little boy to think of how they're going to do it with Kelsey.

I actually have more trouble seeing him being directed by Matthew Vaughn, known for edgy Gangster films. Down Periscope, anyone?

3. I'm, just afraid Grammar's voice will be too distinctive
The last thing I want to hear is Frasier reading Beast's lines.

Hopefully Grammar is a good enough actor to pull it off, but after you've played one character for like 20 years there is reason to worry.

4. don't count your chickens
I have faith in the director. all of the X-men movies have been superb, even if he's a new director with one film under his belt, layer cake has gotten glorious reviews

the more challenges, like Frasier's voice, you can think of, the more excited I get

5. I don't know
Superhero movies have such a small margin for error.

The line between sharp and sleek and hopelessly camp runs very thin in this genre.

8. I think it will work.
I can easily imagine it. I just hope the CGI beast works, I have more worries on that. I'm excited about Juggernaut, I like that character.

Maggie Grace? Is she the aussie or Boone's sister?

9. Beast sighting
I also had the luck of literally walking into Kelsey Grammer with his Beast head on, T-Shirt and shorts...I was going up the driveway to my car and he was coming down to the castle...The Beast is awwwwwesome!...I didn't recognize him because I was so astonished with the face...I told him he was "looking good" and then recognized his voice when he said thanks. The face is jet black and huge and builds up on his squarish features. Just at the side the skin turns a deep blue with a solid line running down the side so his ears are blue and his neck and shoulders. The hair is a different blue and looks like he put his finger in an electric socket. No one will be disappointed !
