More on music--what's your favorites?
I prefer trad--Altan, Solas, Christy Moore, Chieftains--but not exclusively. I've got two of the Prodigals' CDs from their last visit to Columbus (I have to admit I prefer the CD to the live performances--I was deaf for two days last summer! Why do they crank the volume in pubs?!?!)

Oh, and a couple of sources for internet radio--http://www.radiocelt.com/ and http://www.liveireland.com/

So what's your style and favorites?

1. All kinds of stuff.
I like Anthony Kearns but not Ronan Tynan (the latter is too emotionally overwrought for me). Finbar Wright is also fine with me.

My CD collection includes Mary Black, Gaelic Storm (mixed nationalities), Cathie Ryan (Irish-American), the Chieftains, the Baltimore Consort (okay, American, but they do Irish music), and many others.

When I saw Gangs of New York, Finbar Furey's performance of "New York Girls" made me go out and get the soundtrack.

And of course I have a copy of A Woman's Heart, which contains songs by, among others, Eleanor McEvoy and Dolores Keane.

5. Finbar Furey is great
He's got a song "Connemara" that I heard and went searching for (it's on "Chasing Moonlight")--it has the rhythm of horses running across the hills...

From Canada, how about Great Big Sea?

2. Our collection of Irish music includes The Chieftains, Christy Moore,
the Wolfetones, the Saw Doctors, The Furey Brothers, Mary Black, DeDanaan, the Dubliners, etc.

I inherited my parent's collection of the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem albums as well after they died.

3. Van Morrison
Been a fan since since the late 70's. I own 45 commercial releases and countless trades.....I cannot get thru a day without Van in my car, kitchen or computer. I'm weak. :hi:

6. You neglected
LUNASA! Saw them twice, they're just grand.

Also saw and/or love, Maire Brennan, Solas, Altan, Old Blind Dogs, Natalie MacMaster, Blarney Pilgrim, Clannad and Karen Casey

While not entirely traditional Irish, or even Irish folk, other bands worth mentioning are the Medieval Babes and Lorena McKinnet.

7. My list was not even all-inclusive of my own collection!
Which has some of Enya and Sinead O'Connor, as well. (And you only get to criticize Enya if you know how she REALLY spells her name, so there.)

Bring on all the Celts--cousins are family, too! If fiona will play them on Thistle & Shamrock, that's good enough.
