Bill Maher for President!
On the Bill Maher show tonight, he said "The United States needs to stop bragging that it's the greatest country in the world and start acting like it is. ... The United States ranks 55th in the world in literacy."

"As long as we think that being #1 in the world is our birthright, we will keep coasting on the achievements of earlier generations."

Maybe we need a political comedian, who just happens to be a strong Democrat, in the Oval Office. At least he would intend to be funny, unlike what we have now... Just a thought.

1. Maher himself said he could never run for president because he "loves dope
and hates religion."

2. He's not a Democrat, either.
I think he's unaffiliated, but he leans toward Libertarian. I think.

4. You just need a straight shooter, not an equivocating politician afraid to...
speak his mind to avoid pissing off people who need to hear some frank talk once in a while. Otherwise, you lose to a moron.

6. For sure I hope the Democrats run somebody "real" in the next Presidential
election. So sad that the only real we get is from comedians. Like in the courts of royalty..the only truth tellers were often the jokers.

7. OK, maybe not Bill Maher, but...
If someone who spoke with truth, integrity and honesty came forward to run for President, I wouldn't care if he/she were purple with big running sores on his/her nose, I would have to vote for him/her. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that we have anyone of that calibre who is in politics. If candidates aren't rich, they can't afford to run. So that excludes 90% of Americans who might have the intelligence and the savvy to run the country. Harry Truman, if I'm correct, was the last President who was just one of us "common folk". I'm not sure that the rich always understand the battles that the middle and lower classes face each and every day. But someday (like hopefully in 2007 or early 2008), someone will step up who understands people, their circumstances and the troubles in our world and will have concrete, intelligent and strong ideas and principles to back up those ideas. If we can just stand strong until that person gets here...

8. Today, the only thing the US is #1 at is warmongering.
I wish I didn't have to say that, just as I wish it weren't true.

9. Comics and Politics
Actually, I think it was Bill Maher who pointed out to Al Franken last year that there has never been a professional comedian who has run for office. Al could be the first and pave the way for Bill!
