What Strategy Should the Democrats use for '06 and '08

Time is running short to get an overall plan for this year's Congressional elections and the '08 presidential campaign in place. The approach of our party's establishment has been to say nothing, be reactive, and wait for the GOP to implode(also to avoid coming down one way or the other on the war)and leaving vote fraud unchallenged. This is the approach that failed the last three cycles. Another approach would be a progressive strategy of populist economics, grassroots organizing, massive voter registration, support of electoral reform and the recruitment of attractive, charismatic candidates with a real message.

What would be your choice?

Pound the R's on their obvious abuses of power and corruption. Plus, pound them on the disasters of the war and the deficit.

3. I agree with that, but what...

they need to do is to FIGHT anytime there is a challenge thrown their way from the GOP! There is just too many times, in the past, that something silly comes up and they try to downplay it, and it is not addressed the way that it should be!:eyes:

I say during the election, kick them to shit with their own sins. Then, start the progressive agenda once we're in power. But, the first thing we need to do is clean house!

10. Why assume the progressive agenda is a liability that has to be hidden?

Why not use it as a way to win voters to our side?
Why assume that we've lost the arguement and
can only be progressive by stealth?

4. Yeah, pound them

on corruption, the war, all their mistakes have done them in. They're on the ropes now and we should try to keep them there. On the positive side, the Demos already have the best platform. It should be the same as it ever was, just rejuvinated.

9. Pounding the GOP on their failings isn't enough.

We need to show that we have a better plan. We need to get voters to vote FOR us. They won't just
vote AGAINST the GOP. Instead, they'll abstain, and the GOP will win by default.

5. PAPER BALLOTS, HAND-COUNTED AT THE PRECINCT LEVEL!

I voted for #4 (Venezuela--who knows? it may come to that), because the other good strategy failed to include PAPER BALLOTS, HAND-COUNTED AT THE PRECINCT LEVEL!

And a backup strategy would be to use the current disgrace, disrepute, scandal and criminality that the Republican Party has fallen into, to FORCE them to pass Russ Holt's HR 550, which will stop the corporate privatization of our election system, and reverse it, by forbidding undisclosed ("trade secret") software by 2006, and requiring a "voter verified paper ballot" in all systems, among other things.
