This poll needs some DU-ing!
I apologize if this is old news, but it's the first I've heard of it. (That's probably what I get from staying away from here for too long!) Evidently, Maryland's Lt. Governor is calling for Howard Dean to apologize for telling a joke he (the Lt. Gov.) asserts was "racist" at a meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus last week. A local TV station has an online poll about whether Dean should apologize, and at last check, the "yes" votes were at 61%. Can we please change that?

Here's a link to the poll, which is accompanied by a little blurb that explains what Dean's joke was. http://www.thewbalchannel.com/news/4205922/detail.html

Thanks!

1. Pretty lame coming from people who start rumor's about
people's marriages. Only a Republican couldn't see the humor in Dean's honest observation.

6. Dean needed to rephrase the statement for better wording
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 12:29 AM by UL_Approved
This remark needed a better framing:

"You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room? " Dean asked to laughter. "Only if they had the hotel staff in here."

Dean needed to say something like this:

The GOP makes no efforts to support minorities in this country. They talk a good game, but look around. How many black people are in the national GOP conventions? What about blacks running in the party? Most of the time, the Republicans don't want minorities anywhere near, except for menial service jobs. If this was a GOP meeting, the only black people in here would be hotel staff members, doing the hard work to set up the meeting.

7. On Dean's joke:
I think his remarks are right on and funny as hell! You know he has a good point..(I did vote to change that awful poll.) We Dems value our Black brothers and sisters. It's true (I believe) that some Blacks did vote for B last time, because they felt his stated religious views were more in line with where they were. (I wonder if they still feel that way.) But anyway, no joke from Dean is going to drive them out of the Democratic party. No apology from Dean!
