I registered as a Dem today. Did you?
Before today I was a registered independent.

Those who are already registered Dems can ignore of course, but for those of you who've been registered as an independent or another party and have been sitting on the fence, or who haven't registered at all yet, today would be a good day to do so to show your support for the "new Democratic party" headed by Dean.

I challenge you all to head down to your voter registrar's office today and send out your personal message of support.

2. THANK YOU
I've been a registered democrat since Jimmy Carter was our President, not caring who was the DNC Chairman; just knowing who the enemy of America was.

SO IF YOU ARE ON THE FENCE, GET OFF!

3. No, but I gave my money, time and vote to the Dems
I even got a nice little set of 'thank you' letters from the DNC. Unfortunately, they addressed it to 'Dear fellow Democrat' which isn't a problem, but shows a lack of good PR savvy.

Might be a good PR move for the DNC to start tracking Republicans, Independents, Greens, etc. who give money to them in a database. That way they can tailor their letters to make people feel special and yet still part of the fight we are all in together for the betterment of our country.

4. Changed on my b'day in 03
It was my way to celebrate. Being an Okie, registered as a Rep., it was my statement to, who knows who, important to me.

9. Welcome to the party...
I've been nothing but a Dem since I was first eligible to vote in 1992. I thought about registering as an independent, but then Bill Clinton came along, and I don't know, something just said to me, "This is where you belong". I didn't know much about politics at the time, but I leaned so much since then. :hi:

10. Re: I registered as a Dem today. Did you?
Wisconsin has open primaries, so I never "registered" before. But this month I officially joined the state Democrat party.

12. Good for you!
I've been a DEM for decades, but I did give the DNC money when they called this week and said it's because they had the good sense to name Dean as Chair.

13. I switched back to Dem last year
... after an eight year long stint as an independent. I'd been a registered Dem all of my adult life, but I'd written to Bill promising that if he signed the Welfare Destruction Act and the Immigration Persecution Act in '96, I was shredding my party registration. Damned SOB didn't listen, so what else was I to do? But with der Fuehrer in President Gore's usurped office, I figured I'd better give in and rejoin the rank and file.

Besides, pollsters and analysts tend to view independents as centrists; they don't properly attribute such defections to disenfranchised liberals fed up with their Party adopting the profile and practices of Vichy France.

14. I was going to go back to being an independent.....
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 10:09 AM by ulTRAX
I think I've been an independent ever since I was old enough to vote. Last year I registered as a Dem to help the local DFA group infiltrate the Party. I've been meaning to switch back but but your comments about Dean now heading the Party give me pause.

But I have REAL problems with the Democrats. They opppose the Progressive reforms I want to see and would rather game our dysfunctional two party system then reform it. So... I'll be holding my nose as long as I'm associated with the Dems.

15. Yes I did.
I am now a registered Democrat. I know thats not a big deal to most people but I would have NEVER NEVER NEVER joined a political party before Bush. If there was not a growing progressive movement in the party I wouldn't have done so.

Indiana doesn't record a party affiliation with voter registration.

17. No. I'm an independent
That's important here in MA, some of out Republicans are more liberal than the Dem's in other states.
