I've lifted free weights since I was a teenager - not with a goal of power lifter or body builder, but because I enjoyed it. Now, in my 60's, I've joined a gym (with my wife) and am actually beginning to do what I should have been doing all these years, and it's working. I've lost 20 lbs since Mar 2, without going on a starvation diet. Hope these links help a little.
