in a tree..what a treat! I was walking my dog along the river trail and happened to see it perched there.

1. Wow my heart sores when I see a hawk.
I don't know what it would do if I was ever privileged enough to see an eagle.

2. Aren't they amazing!!
The have become more prevalent in the last few years in my neck of the woods. They are huge up close. I watched them "play" on the ice last winter; they are expert at swooping in and swiping fish from Gulls.

The Gulls would chatter but offer little in the way of argument....

I haven't seen one in years and definitely not as close as you were.

4. I've been lucky enough to see a few bald eagles in my lifetime
Always in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, while on vacation. The first couple of times I saw eagles, they were sitting in nests. The next 3 or 4 sitings were while driving along the highway and seeing one zoom across the road, out from one tree line, and right behind the other.
Then, last fall, we were driving along the southern shore of the Keweenaw peninsula, near Bete Grise, MI when we saw a couple of eagles fly out from the trees, then circle right back and disappear again. This time, I pulled over and we waited, and sure enough, THREE bald eagles then flew out from the trees and began circling nearby. One even flew directly above us. I was afraid it was going to crap on me while I was taking pictures. I'm not sure if the eagle was just showing off, or if he was checking us out. Either way, it was a thrill!
