Anyone hear the guy interviewed about the "Church of Reality" on Malloy?
Last week I think it was, I heard an interview on Mike Malloy's show with Marc Perkel, founder of the "Church of Reality" he just started. After the interview, I went to the Web site. I wondered what you all thought.

http://www.churchofreality.org/

From the site:

The Church of Reality provides a religious identity for people who have made a personal commitment in their lives to pursue reality the way it really is. The prusuit of reality is something that is a shared process. It's something we do together as a church, as a community, and as the human race.

...

These are the Seven Sacred Missions of the Church of Reality.

1. We believe in Reality - the way it really is! - If it's real - we believe in it. The Church of Reality is a Personal Commitment to the Truth. We Realists explore the universe together with our minds.
...
2. We Spread the Sacred Message - Reality - Our mission is to promote reality in society.
...
3. We Choose the Sacred Direction - Forward - The Sacred Direction is forward - onward and upward.
...
4. We Honor the Tree of Knowledge - The Tree of Knowledge represents the sum total of all human understanding.
...
5. We Ask the Sacred Moral Question - What is Good? - The Sacred Moral Question is, "Is this a Good Thing?"
...
6. We Issue the Sacred Challenge - The Sacred Challenge is a challenge to other faiths and religions to ask themselves - "How do we know that what we believe is real?"
...
7. We make it Happen - We are a religion that is an activist religion.

1. Heard of it
There are a number of church/organisations that have been forming from the scattered forces of the skeptic/atheist community. The dominant orgs in the atheist community tend to be aggressive apostate structures. They have little interest in finding a path in life and are more concerned with striking down other systems. Not a very healthy mindset. With nothing positive to center around the entire view becomes negative over time.

There are a number of groups similar to this. Church of Freethought, Secular Humanists (an older group), and others. I suspect there needs to be a critical mass of such groups before they will make real progress. Right now they are a bit fragmented. In time hopefully some can come together and form a stronger whole.

2. Thanks for link, Original Poster.
Az, thanks for the point - I've decided that I certainly not about taking any other organization down. I've adopted a faith (Religious Science), and it emphasizes not to be about harming others. And it, like UU, believes in individual paths. Since they both do, why do I need to put down someone else's path?

The Church of Reality looks like a good effort, but not my thing. Looks like it deserves tax exempt status as much as the Southern Baptist Convention churches. I believe that their administrative body is actually .... a political action committee. I do not want my church to veer in that direction, personally.

3. I, too, am a Religious Scientist...
Have been a part of this fine spirtual thought system for nearly 40 years now. I have read and explored other paths, but NOTHING satisfies me the way RS does.

4. Itzamirakul, I misread your post as saying you were
associated with the Church of Reality; thus explaining the PM to you.

Late last night, mind wasn't functioning too well. Never does as a matter of fact. :-)
