Question about Advent Study
My family celebrates Advent with a study every night. Our church provides the booklets. This year's Partner in Prayers was written by Dawn and Joseph Weaks and I am having problems with it. My absolute favorite Advent book was written by former President Jimmy Carter. I put the book somewhere so I could use it again but for the life of me I can't remember where. Is anyone else having a problem or do I need an attitude adjustment?

1. Perhaps if you were more specific we'd understand you better
You are having "problems" - what problems? Too intellectual? Lots of big words you don't understand? Too dumbed down - lots of small words and small ideas? Is it too evangelical? Too liberal? Is it in Dutch? Tagalog? Full of Jesus Crispy-ness with no theological meat?

Who are Dawn and Joseph Weaks?

What, actually, is the issue here?

3. What do you mean when you say "Jesus Crisp?"
I have seen you use that a couple of times. Can you explain?

(Maybe I am just dense).

2. Partners in Prayer....that's the Disciples devotional?
I served a church once that would use these during Advent (and Lent, I think), but my current church (UCC) just uses the "These Days" devotionals. I always liked Partners in Prayer, as I recall.

I don't know who Dawn and Joseph Weaks are (though the name Dawn Weaks does seem to vaguely ring a bell), so can't say whether the problem is theirs or yours. But you might look elsewhere for a devotional. Does your church also get the "Secret Place" devotionals that the Disciples and American Baptist jointly publish? Would that work better?

Here are some other possibilities for daily devotionals, all pretty good, imo:

These Days (UCC and Presbyterian)

Rejoice! (Mennonite)

If you don't want to wait for a new subscription to begin, here are a couple of online devotionals:

Hope this helps!

4. I like the UCC daily devotionals.
I get them in my email daily and look at it before I shut down my computer at night.
