How's everyone here doing?
Just wanted to check in on this forum--as I know some here were affected by Katrina.

Please post and let us know how you are, when or if you can.

Know we support you and hope that you and your loved ones are safe.

For those that weren't directly affected, but know someone that was--feel free to post, vent, etc. here.

Or if you are just alarmed, disturbed by the level of posts that deny the experiences of others going through the devastation of Katrina--feel free to vent that as well.

:pals:

1. I was not affected directly, nor did I know anyone who was affected.
But I was alarmed by the number of DUers who refused to see how racially motivated the problems surrounding the whole thing were. I mean, it was what, 78-80% of the people affected were black? How could anyone deny race was a huge part of it?

Even white people who don't consider themselves racist contribute to the problem by denying it's very existence. I'm ashamed to say I used to be one of them. But I learned my lesson long ago. I hope most of DU also learned theirs.

Hi, bliss_eternal. How is life treating you? :hi:

2. Hi mutley!
:hi:

I'm pretty good, thanks--how about you?

I was also alarmed and frankly surprised by the numbers of people here (on DU)that refused to acknowledge the racial motivation surrounding Katrina. It was probably one of the saddest weeks of my life. Not just what was going on with DU, but just looking at the world at large, seeing the devastation on television and watching some reporters just remain blatantly clueless about the whole thing (Cnn--Tucker Carlson comes to mind).

With the nomination of Alito on the horizon, I am feeling a bit dismal about the realities of race in this country.

But other than all of that--lol, I'm well. Comes a point I suppose when you do everything you know how to do to change things, after that, you kind of have to stop stressing about stuff--or just remain miserable--doesn't seem like a great way to go through life though.

Just checking in. Haven't visited this forum in awhile.
race relations are still horrible in this country.
I, too, can't believe some of the posts after Katrina.
Ignorance. Pure ignorance.
If that section of NOLA was white and affluent, they would've had a shit load of buses come and scoop those people up.

How the hell were some of those people going to evacuate when they had no means to?????

Anyway, I'm well. Hope you are too! :hi:
