My soap making horrors and my desire to make face cream
First off I just realized that my last batch of soap, (the first three or so were terrible) seems to have no smell and cost me about $45 dollars! I made it with coffee because I like the smell of coffee. It is still sitting on my counter changing so I hope it will become ummmm better? I was seriously thinking of trying to sell this stuff but I am a dimwit about it.

And does anyone have any ideas about kind of cheap ingredients to make face cream and where to buy them? I think I need glycerin. I am getting all creative about the things I want to put IN the cream that would be good for your face but I need a good base.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I know there are tons of websites selling stuff to make these things. There are so many my head is just spinning.

1. What in the world happened??
when I was little, my mother would melt Ivory soap, add drops of scented oil and pour the liquid into muffin tins to harden.

Then I would carve them with a butter knife into shapes and animals.

Great time waster on rainy days... and not very expensive.

2. An easy way to make soap
is to buy the glycerin soap cubes that you melt-and-pour into your mold of choice. You can add scents, colors, and whatnot. The soap is actually nice and lasts a long time.

There are some online groups devoted to making soap and other cosmetic concoctions. Lots of info there.

My grandma kept a grease can and made her own soap with lye. Don't think I'll be trying that anytime soon.

3. I rebatch when i make soap..although the make it from scratch is
fun..and easy to do...lots of recipes on line...just search for soap making..u will find lots. To rebatch...just go out and buy the least expensive soap bars u can find..about 10 to 12 bars...take a potato slicer and slice them up. once that is done, put the slivers of soap in a big pot..add olive oil and some water or milk is also good and put in your oven..and heat at 350...stirring often as it melts..when it needs more liquid..just add it...and stir it in..when it gets so that it is soft enough to just pour...add the extra ingredients...i put in chopped up flowers, leaf green tea, alohe, some essential oils, orange rind..tiny pieces..whatever u want..ha..then mix it all together...and pour the whole thing into a cardboard box that is cut to be about 2 in high on the sides..and about 1 by 2 feet long...let is set for about 24 hrs..it hardens..cut it with a knife...and set the pieces..about 20..on paper towel...let it cure for about 3 wks...and it is ready to use...and it is really nice..u will love it.

4. About.com has loads of recipes for soaps and creams
and they're not the only people who do. Just Google "craft skin cream" and see what you come up with. Most of those sites also have soap recipes.
