Your opinions on faux painting and mural work, pls....
This may not go any further than this board (lol) but I thought I would get some good feedback here.

I am contemplating the possibility of taking some faux painting classes. I love to create and am interested in mural work, too.

Given that most contractors (painting) are guys, would I be at a disadvantage going into such a field as a (ahem) girl?

Any thoughts appreciated...

Enjoy your weekend,
Bliss:hi:

1. I don't see gender as an issue
Most painters who paint house (or commercial building) *exteriors* may be men, but I see no specific reason for that. As for decorative or interior work, it should be even less an issue.

We tried to hire a muralist a few years ago to paint a kitchen wall. Every one we found was a woman.

From HGTV, it would appear that there are many professional painters who are women.

There is a woman in our area (we know of her, but don't know her personally) who owns and operates a pretty big painting contracting business. She started out as a painter and ladder climber herself, and then grew the business from there. Almost all her work is serious commercial stuff.

4. Wow--I didn't know this.
I only recently started exploring this field. I didn't know there were so many women involved in this sort of work.

Thank you for your input!

2. One of the top faux painters in our area is a woman.
My husband has hired her for numerous jobs. I doubt you'll be as outnumbered as you think!

Have fun and report back to us! :)

5. Speaking of murals
have you seen these? http://jimvestments.com/mural/

I guess you could call these "faux murals." I love this Niagara Falls one - wow!

6. One of my friends is a young woman who does a lot of faux finishes,
murals, and other kinds of decorative paint. Her gender hasn't been an impediment to her at all.
