Animation Review: Avatar The Last Air Bender
Avatar: The Last Air Bender

I have only seen the first season, but I plan on buying the other seasons once my student loans come in.

Story: A "bender" is one who can control one of the four elements; Earth, Fire, Water, or Air. The Avatar is a person who can control all four elements as he or she grows older. The Avatar reincarnates into his or her position in a similar method as the Dali Lama allegedly reincarnates into his position.

This story takes place 100 years after the Avatar, when he is still a kid, accidentally freezes himself and his flying bison in a large sphere of ice. During this 100 year period of time the Fire Nation attacks the other three nations with superior military might.

Two teenagers from the Water Nation, one of which is a novice Water Bender, accidentally awaken the young Avatar and his flying bison. The four then go off on mystical Kung fu adventures in an attempt to restore peace throughout the World.

The main bad guys of the Fire Nation are portrayed as being thoughtful, honorable, and occasionally compassionate.

Animation: Excellent. The quality one would expect from a high production show.

Humor: There is lots of humor in this show, though I rarely find myself laughing out loud. Its funny, but not even close to the humor of Family Guy or Simpsons. My kids laugh out loud at some of the jokes though. Many of the jokes involve head bonks or embarrassing situations.

Violence: Every episode contains non-bloody martial arts violence.

Hentai Action: Zero.

Overall: Awesome show. The main focus of this show is the story and character development. Even the villains experience character development.
