Massive Religious Propoganda Campaign Being Waged
Edited on Wed Dec-15-04 01:58 PM by Beetwasher
I'm noticing a big surge in religious propoganda, specifically this "take back christmas" bullshit. It's also related to the bullshit "values" theme regarding the election and that Bush now has a "values" mandate. Another interesting piece was the Atheist who converted story that surfaced recently. This was bullshit as he didn't convert, he merely said he's conisdering the possibility of a "god", but the headline and spin was that he's now a believer (he's not).

This is all moving towards the goals of making the US a christian nation and the demonization and alienation of groups who are widely perceived as "liberals", including but not limited to Democrats, atheists, jews, minorities etc.

Please post more examples of this propoganda campaign if you see them.

1. Just received this from MoveOn
Dear MoveOn member,
Before the election, we stopped Sinclair Broadcasting from airing an anti-Kerry hit piece. But Sinclair continues to interject partisan bias into local evening news reaching 1 in 4 homes.

Every night, Sinclair vice president Mark Hyman broadcasts a conservative rant -- called "The Point" -- which most of Sinclair's 62 stations are required to air during their local news. "The Point" predictably attacks Democrats and progressives while praising George Bush. No counterpoint is offered. This is an abuse of the public airwaves.

Our friends at Media Matters for America are spearheading a campaign to demand balance on Sinclair's evening news by telling Sinclair's advertisers about the partisanship they're supporting.

Can you contact Sinclair's local and national advertisers? Click here to visit the new website, SinclairAction.com:

http://www.moveon.org/r?r=629

You can tell advertisers how Sinclair's "The Point" interjects partisan commentary into the evening news program they sponsor, reflecting poorly on their product. We are not suggesting a boycott of these advertisers. Rather, we are hoping these advertisers, as good corporate citizens, will persuade Sinclair to include a counterpoint.

In the last month, "The Point" has included partisan commentary like:

"Religion, particularly Christianity, has been under attack by the left for several years." (11/18/04)
" ridicule what red-staters see as moral values and in their arrogant and superior way, the Angry Left substitute their own topics they claim to represent real moral values: unjust war, tax relief and indifference to the environment." (11/23/04)
"Mainstream America will not vote for a party run by Hollywood liberals, greedy trial lawyers and clueless academia." (11/15/04)
"The facts never have and never will matter to the Angry Left." (12/7/04)
Sinclair's partisan bias is not new. In April, Sinclair forbade its stations from airing an ABC Nightline special honoring the 700 American soldiers killed in Iraq. Explaining its decision, Sinclair declared: "We do not believe political statements should be disguised as news content."

Sharing this sentiment, we're contacting Sinclair's advertisers to alert them to the partisan commentary Sinclair inserts into the local evening news. No company wants to be perceived as partisan. With our letters and calls, we can enlist Sinclair's advertisers to pressure Sinclair to offer a counterpoint.

Thank you for working to restore a healthy debate to the public airwaves.

Sincerely,

--Noah T. Winer

2. Religion Portrayed Negatively On TV (It's NOT, But the Headline Suggest It
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 02:03 PM by Beetwasher

NEW YORK (AP) - Television entertainment programs mention God more often than they did in the mid-1990s but tend to depict organized religion negatively, a study released Thursday said.

The Parents Television Council watched every hour of prime-time on the broadcast networks during the 2003-04 season and logged 2,344 treatments of religion. They judged 22 percent of the mentions positive, 24 percent negative and the rest neutral.

The conservative group's last study, released in 1997, found far fewer mentions of the topic - an average of once per hour compared to three times per hour last season.

But any mention of a religious institution or member of the clergy was at least twice as likely to be negative than positive, the council said.

I wonder how they "judged" these things to begin. I'm sure they were very objective about it. :eyes:

3. Here's a test for them
How many avowed atheists have regular positive roles on television series?

How many series have their very concept based on atheism (to counteract things like Joan of Arcadia and Touched by an Angel)?

4. Remember the "Pizza Test"
All you have to do, wherever you are, is grab the Yellow Pages. If a Christian says he is persecuted, ask him if he thinks pizza places are persecuted. You'll either get a "no, of course not" or just a quizzical look. That's your cue to reach for the Yellow Pages.

Go to the Pizza section, and count the number of pages devoted to pizza restaurants.

Then go to the Churches section, and repeat.

I'll let you guess which one is larger.
