And here are some of my graphic works
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 05:41 PM by cags
The first two are done with my favorite application, Adobe Illustrator.

These are photoshop using just the brushes

1. Did you start with a photo as a base
for the first image? Obviously one was used in the second. I'm not familiar with Illustrator (I only use Photoshop so far-but need to learn Illustrator eventually) what's the main differences between the two applications?

Nice work. Unfortunately, it seems that this forum is rather unfriendly towards professional commercial artists. If you aren't doing dark, personal, painterly or soul baring artwork, then there's not much of a place for you here. Same thing with the first art college I went to; chock full of those who sniffed that illustration wasn't real "art". *sigh*

Hey, did you do the third image using a Wacom tablet? I find doing complete illustration digitally rather intimidating. Good job!

3. Fortunately for me I'm a traditional artist as well
Thats why I post in this forum and thought I'd add some of my graphic works.

And yes I used a photo to work from for the first two with Illustrator. A lot of people think the face is a manipulated photo but its not. Its pure Illustrator as is the bike.

Illustrator is vector based not pixel, so its great if you need to resize images without losing quality.

And the last two I used a wacom tablet, the third is Photoshop and all i used was the eraser tool, it was fun to do that one. The others are just brushes

5. A great illustration IS traditional art
IMO. Is N.C. Wyeth not an artist? Howard Pyle? Rockwell Kent? Bob Kuhn? The Sistine chapel ceiling portrays stories of the Bible; thus it is illustration, yet it is also regarded as art by most people.

I'm an illustrator because what I draw and paint usually tells a story. This painting I did for myself:

It's part of a story that I wrote for children because that's what I like to do. Nobody paid for it, so is it "traditional" art? Now a publisher wants to print my story and my illustrations. Once I receive the check, does it no longer qualify as art? That's the eternal question for some (but not for me).

6. I know an illustration is art, but there is a Graphics Group here
for this type of medium. but since I posted my paintings here I just thought I'd post my graphics work here also.

It may not be appreciated by traditional artists though because unless they've used that medium they don't realize that a good computer illustration takes as much time and skill as a good painting does.

Great painting by the way, Is it watercolor?

7. Thanks-it's acrylic on board
A good computer illustration is more difficult, in my experience. Like trying to paint with your left hand...

My college always defined graphics as packaging design, logo design, or advertising/ web design. Illustration was a separate category.Maybe other colleges defined things differently.

10. Mine did that too, but my Illustration instructor allowed us to use
computers for some of the assignments.

4. I know i've responded to your work before in another thread.
But that is Damned good work. This coming for a traditional artist who has very little experience in anything other than "Pure Painting".

Thanks again for showing cags. :hi:

12. Thanks, Adobe is awesome if you take the time to really
get into it. The bike and face probably took 25-35 hours each.
