Sept. 24-26 Protest Photo Smackdown! (Needless to say, dial-up warning)
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 12:26 PM by intheflow
OK, Photo Groupies! I know not everyone could make it to DC, but if you made it to any protest this past weekend,
share your photos here.

These are my entries--a mere 19 photos. It was hard to chose "just" 19 from the 300+ I shot! These are more or
less in the order I shot them.

Another of my panoramics. Scroll right for full effect.

In front of the White House.

This is the closest I've ever been to really famous people!

This girl was accross the street from the Freeper rally on Sunday.

These last two photos were from the rally before Monday's civil disobedience action.

The other side of the finger photo listed people in the administration and scandals in such a way that down the center it read "Liars Hypocrites" That was very clever, too.

Hopefully you can join us next time.

5. I've been working on mine this a.m., ITF
but I've got to do some stupid work today. I hate it when that happens.

Anyway, will this be open for a while? Remember the one of the girl that we were looking at on your laptop? She's FABULOUS on the full screen. I should be able to get some up here later today. Are we limiting ourselves to a certain number?

6. No limits!!
And of course its open indefinitely. It's not like this is a real contest or anything.

I can't wait to see your shots again. I debated putting up the shot with the shaved chest guy because I liked your close-up of his chest. But then I thought his face was much too cute to not include.

7. Your monk on the far left?
I have a very close-up profile of him that I love. You and I must have been within feet of each other at this demonstration, but I sure didn't see you. Did you see the large ImpeachBush.org sign? I was holding that one with two other grandmas that I met that morning, one from Camp Casey and one other lady who came to DC by herself. We were walking back and forth right in front of the iron fence for probably 45 minutes before we went out and joined the march in the street. We must have had 100 photographs taken of us. :)

10. Okay, I really am working, but...
Here we are in all our glory. I don't know why I had such a weird look on my face, but ....

The lady next to me just jumped in for the photo op. (Photo opportunities are accomplishments, right?) Hahaha.

I walked next to you for a short time, and we didn't even know it!! I recognize that big sign and the pink shirt because I almost walked right into it a couple times (the sign, not the shirt, LOL!)

13. It looks like Blue and I were really close to the DUers.
We both got a lot of the same subjects, but it looks like we were divided by the sea of people. We looked and looked for you all, but this was as close as we got:

We know it's about depleted uranium, but somehow "No DU" was fitting to us. Kinda a visual cosmic pun. :)

I love the DU group photo! Can you name all the DUers in it? (I'm not including the "Here in Spirit" names in that request. ;) ) I can name LynneSin and Mr.Scorpio, but then it gets fuzzy.

The second photo, the crosses leading to the tent, is much more interesting than the shots I took of the crosses and the Washington Monument. I also really liked the little War Pigs puppet/signs. I didn't see them at all.

I did see the giant brown puppets. Blue got a great shot of the lot of them dancing, I really hope she posts that. That group had a great drum section, did they?

Finally, I'm pretty sure that cop is flirting with you. LOL! Do you think he was for our cause or smirking like a chimp-boy?

I feel like I saw so much yet also missed quite a bit-funny!
http://flickr.com/photos/78165453@N00/sets/1038970/ I have mine on Flicker now, some good ones FREE to use of course.
I think we should all write our congress folks etc, media and share photos and comments.

18. We found the DU group at
15th and Constitution. Well we kind of just hung around there and watched for the banner and got lucky. No way I could name all the DU'ers in it. Lynnesin, Sharon, Livvy, gkhouston and Jerry right off the bat. Now know Catchawave was helping to hold up the Here in Spirit sign. Did not know that was Catch then though. I am terrible at names.

I got lucky with the crosses because someone had put the flag on the one on the corner. That made it easy to use it to set up the whole shot.

On the cops, not sure if he was flirting but he did know he was getting his picture taken. He also looked like he was making the best of a work day. Most of the cops I saw seemed either bored or helpful. Most were being ask directions or just standing. Pretty much every one we ran into was very nice to use. The lady that taught us how to use the Metro, the two cabbies that wouldn't take any fare for cab rides to the last metro guy that let me out even if my fare was 20 cents short.

I loved the brown puppets and horse, and they did have good drummers. The consensus in the group was that they had an artist in charge.

12. We also go to the Vietnam Memorial
when in DC. The hub is a Vietnam vet, though he handles the memorial better these days. Also saw the WWII and Korean war memorials for the first time. I need to try going sometime in the very very early am before people are out to take pics sometime.

WWII Memorial

Have to add in the duck sitting on a waterfall of the WWII Memorial.

14. I really wanted to get over to the war monuments
but missed it this time around. I've seen them all but the WWII one during past protests, though.

And, of course, the one in my sigline, which has to be my favorite.

20. Thank you - good work!
You (and CC, etc.) did a good job compiling the bits and pieces, people and messages, into a whole. Collections like this tell a truth that the media will not.
