3. I also like the second one best.
In its almost symmetry and in just what it is we have an unusual shot there. Were you in a boat?
The others, though well done and perfect for the theme, don't have that "special, I need to take another look" feel.

4. Thanks! I was on the opposite bank. The breeze was much too cold to be on the water.

5. Well, I'm obviously in the
minority here, but I think your "Branches" is a great photo. The brilliant colors of the leaves contrasting against the darkness of the branches, which in turn contrast against the background. It's difficult to explain, but there's a lot going on in it's simplistic way.

Just my humble opinion.

6. I like that one too. More than the bangs, in fact. :)

7. Well, I say enter a photo that
speaks to you, that your intuition says "yes, this is the one."

That is the criteria I go by. Well, first an foremost, I must think it's "contest worthy", and yes, that's arbitrary, a personal opinion.

But then, most of my photos have a "story" behind them a "meaning" if you will.

Case in point - our recent "black" contest.

I REALLY wanted to submit a great photo of Pre-Adrenalin, and I literally took hundreds of shots of that sculpture, from many angles, etc.

But . . . that sculpture was made by one of our art art/history students as her senior project and it's the first work of art by a student that is a permanent installation.

So . . . to make make my short story long, I really (personally) was satisfied with my photo, but in turn honored that students work.

Thanks to anyone who really reads this long post. ;-)

9. I do. I love getting input and I appreciate all critiques - because I can't learn
unless I know what I'm doing wrong/right - but I get a 'feel' for a photo and that influences me most.

8. Concur. It didn't jump out at me immediately
but after some mulling over, I think it's the best of the batch.

12. As well you should be.
No idea how it might grab voters in a contest, but I gave up speculating about such things long ago.:)

13. I never expect to win but would never bet on what would appeal to voters - 'cause you never know.
Still, nothing like fresh eyes when you're deciding. Especially with people who are willing to help you get better.

I see my photos over and over again and I get to thinking they're all poo.
