Here's one of my rejects.
Please add yours.
I find this theme extremely difficult, and would love to get a little discussion going on the subject.

For instance, I have mailed off a few I liked and asked for reactions.
Consistently I got: How about trying something different...........

1. Aw, he's kinda cute
Just a bit intimidating looking.

So I went to the park today looking for people dressed in black. Then I tried to wait for people dressed in black to come into the light on a path from a dark background. I never got the right mix of dark clothing and interesting people. I am not satisfied with this person walking.

I would have rather gotten this runner, but in the setting of the first picture

Even then, I wouldn't have entered it. I was just sorta screwing around.

2. So you are finding it a bit tricky, too, eh?
I'm going to shoot an idea I have in a minute, again, after it did not work the first time.
I think I'll learn a lot from this challenge, that's a fact.

3. yes
I have a couple in my archives that are probably better than anything I can find in the next few days. I wouldn't exactly call either of them winners, but at least I am not embarrassed by them. I enjoyed myself though. It was a pretty day.

4. It looked like a wonderful day, I strongly felt it from your pictures,
but neglected to say it because I was thinking about the photo I wanted to take.
It might have worked. Will see if I still like it in the morning.

commentary, rejected potential entries, a little interaction about the theme "Black".

I have decided that all of you except Celebration and I must find it to be a piece of cake and that you are ready for the show to begin.
I don't know what my problem was anyway.

I can't wait to see your photos come in and drop on my screen.

6. I took a bunch of pics
of what I thought was a terrific idea. The lighting was wrong the reflections detracted from the shot and I doubt I will post my crappy work.

Tomorrow is another day and another idea.

Ideas I have. That's not the problem. It's the execution of the ideas that are tripping me up.

I like your bull by the way. He's a handsome critter, quite noble looking in his eye contact with the camera. We have no bulls here and I don't think I can get close enough to the wild turkeys who have moved into our neighborhood to get a comparable shot. ;-)

7. Yeah, I was meandering
off to bed and then you chimed in!
It is turning into a challenge and a half at my house, too. I shot some black objects laid out on a black velvet sweater of mine. One of them might be my entry.
Maybe not. I had 3-4 by now I liked and the family panned.
I'll stop listening to them in the end, since it's my emotion that counts, and the chips falling be damned.

Thanks for the comment on the bull. I took that photo straight in his face in Costa Rica, they live in the streets there, and I was scared out of my mind.
I posted it here in a b/w version and got an amazing number of pos comments, but I turned it back to color to look at it for the contest and decided this is not going to work.

I also took a photo of my next door pitch black lab, and it's so scary looking not even the dog lovers would vote for it.
Nice to hear from you, Mz Pip.

I'm not so sure it has to be a black object or someone dressed in black or even a black and white photo. Play with shadow and light the contrast between the darkness and light. Maybe I'm just coming at it from a skewed angle but then again that seems to be the way my mind works. :)

35. Yes.
I lost some objectivity in my search for a photo to submit.
The one I had yesterday, filed as: Entry/Black has been thrown over today for the one: Real Entry/Black.

8. I've looked around and plan a few more walking trips this week but
nothing seems right as of yet.

I could stage a photo, I guess....

I think I'm looking too hard. Oh well...

9. While out and about over
the weekend, I spotted this sculpture. Did an about face with my car and took a couple shots. Although okay, certainly not "photo contest" worthy.

Then I went shopping for some new cookware, and game up with this shot, which I would title "Calling the Kettle Black." ;-)

But then I remembered a structure I've been struggling with for some time. I've gone back three times over the weekend, and may go back and shoot some more. Thank GAWD for digital cameras. Anyway, if I get satisfactory results, that just may be my entry.

So, although a tough topic, a certainly though provoking and inspiring topic.

10. I like all of these, my dear Callalily!
Especially the pot, I think. I LIKE big, dark pots!

It's elegant as well as useful.

The silhouette figures are also lovely. Maybe try shooting them up close? Or as a detail? Just a thought...

Seeing other's potential entries makes me less enthusiastic about my "potential" entry.

I took this one yesterday on my walk to work. It's an abandoned railroad tracks. Air was cool, water warm, hence the mist.

24. Just to see this one was worth starting the thread.
This depicts a scene where I both DO and DON't want to be there. Interesting. On the right it just sort of drops off into nowhere.
Because I like it so much, I would like to see the top cropped by just a little to the end of the trees on the left. It would pull the eye down to the tracks more. But I could of course be wrong.
Really spectacular shot.

29. Good advice about the
cropping Mira. I sent this pic to work to use as a screen saver, and I'm thinking the photo too large because the screen saver program (?) automatically cropped the top part of the photo. I truly like the results and now I can't wait to get home and give it a try.

Thanks! I always appreciate your comments and support.
