Fossil thin samples
Not my images, but I volunteer at the NM Museum of Natural History slicing rocks into about 1/4" to 3/8" cross sections which are then sent to Belgium where another guy polishes them down to transluscent and photographs the fusilinids and other fossils for study.

Wow, can't believe I got the spelling wrong. Worse yet, I didn't check. Oh well, public education has served myself and others well enough? Trying to give back. These fossils are primarily used as guide or index fossils.
