This 100-400 lens is the best thing ever for wildlife photography. I'm astounded. 400 mm handheld.

3. Very nice pictures
Aren't new lenses fun? :D

Love the last one. For some reason I like the coloring of the picture.

7. I like the last one, too.
I got several pictures of these little guys whom I wouldn't have even seen if it hadn't been for another photographer set up in the mud with a HUGE lens, probably one of those big fixed lenses. These blended in so well with the color of the background they were almost invisible until they moved. Their markings are just gorgeous when you look at the picture at full resolution.

I really wish I had had this lens when we were over in Kodiak. I could have gotten much better pictures of the whales, which with my bad eyes I couldn't even see without the benefit of a camera lens. My husband would point in the general direction and say, "There she blows," and I just pointed and shot. I'm surprised I got anything at all.

5. Is this effectively a 160 - 640mm or are you using a full frame body?

6. I have it on the 7D, so it's 160 to 640.
I usually keep a wide-angle lens on the full frame body.
