1. That heron is exquisite
I like how the light catches the feathers.

That duck looks quite the character. I lol'd at it's little curly tail and pom-pom!

3. Thanks,
I kind of like "cute", unlike some people here. We rarely get frozen lakes around here so this was a bit of a novelty for me. I thought I had better at least TRY to get a winter photo of some sort, since we haven't had any snow. If I had gone today the ice would have been gone.

4. Thanks
There are probably about eight or nine lakes at Shelby Farms, and this one is the largest, and has a well used asphalt track around the whole thing--almost two miles long. It is flat, with few trees around it. I rarely see blue herons at Shelby Farms and this is the first time I have seen one at this particular lake. Of course, in freezing weather there aren't many people using the track.

There is a place where one lake drains into another one, and apparently shorebirds like to go there, because I have seen a white egret there a few times.

In any case, these are the closest photos that I have taken of a heron! Actually I have one of this same one by the paddle boat dock that I might like better! But it doesn't look like natural habitat. In these pictures it was difficult to not show the chain link fence around the big drainage system, LOL.
