A question regarding the December Photo Contest

Initially, the schedule for the photo contest looked like this:

Preliminary rounds will be posted Wednesday December 16th and run until 9 p.m. Saturday December 19th. Finals will be posted later Saturday night, and will run until 9 p.m. Wednesday December 23rd.

Now that everyone's entry is in early (!), there is another option.

Preliminary rounds will be posted this evening (Sunday December 13th), and run until 10 p.m. Wednesday the 16th. Finals will be posted later Wednesday night, and run until 9 p.m. Saturday December 19th.

The question is, how do you feel about a change in the schedule?

If posted this evening, should the prelims run until Thursday instead of Wednesday? with the finals ending on next Sunday?

1. One (surely surprising) thing about me is

I almost always have a opinion.
I voted for: You are the hostess, and I second it with getting the show on the road, because, as Christmas approaches we're all a bit busier drinking eggnog.

Also, just for the heck of another opinion, I think the times allotted for the voting are always too long to suit me.
I think one day less that what we are used to would be a good thing.
Reason:
In the last 24 hours usually the votes go up only by very very few, the kicking becomes a chore which accomplishes very little, and the die is usually cast after the first 48 hours.

I think a clear announcement that the voting time is finite and enforced would help with this.
Maybe others don't feel this way at all, but that's my observation.

4. I always try to have the same weekday/weekend balance...

...in the prelims as in the finals, because I've found that DU has a different "demographic" for those times. Thus, I usually have a Wednesday-Saturday preliminary round and a Sunday-Tuesday final.

The problem, for me, with your proposed schedule is that the preliminary round will only run on weekdays (essentially Monday-Wednesday) without any time for weekend voting (except for, maybe, a couple of hours Sunday evening).

I wouldn't do it, but it's your contest.

I like the idea of the prelim to finals falling on Saturday to Sunday, too - giving, like you said, a balance.

If I were to post the prelims in about an hour, 4 p.m. (eastern) this afternoon, would that make you more comfortable about the lack of weekend time? I'm thinking if the change were to be made, the sooner I could get them up today, the better.

Sunday is drawing to a close, so like you said, the sooner the better.
Good info is coming out, ideas and opinions we can toss around to make the contests more crisp, maybe, in the future.

Good luck for the posting, though, as I'm watching your capabilities, luck has nothing to do with it.

between the posting of the 3 threads. Although I will try my best (everything is laid out in Notepad), and I'm as ready as I'll ever be, my typing skills are not that sharp.

I think he meant that he liked to have at least one weekday and one weekend day in each of the contests.

He may be right.

My point is that I wouldn't think Saturday and Sunday would be very good days to run a 48 hour contest, either preliminary or finals. However, Friday and Saturday would be okay. JMHO--lots of people only are around during the week.
