75 degrees, no wind, and sunshine
My friend owns a couple of kayaks, and off we went into the Mangroves

The sentry at the entrance said it's OK to come into the tunnels

As you can see it gets tight at times, and sometimes you just get stuck

Then it widens again and you can recover from the maneuvers

And a blue heron at the other end made sure we got out OK

2. Nice pictures. And what
fun to go kayaking in the mangroves.

Heron's are so majestic. We have sand hill and blue herons in my area. We often see them along the riverbanks while rowing.

I was hiking several years ago in the marshes and saw two sand hill herons "dancing". I felt honored to see such a site, but I also felt like an intruder, even though we kept our distance.

3. No gators?
Just kidding. Kayaking amongst gators sounds a bit daunting.

So, the weather is cooperating, and this is obviously an awesome vacation. Love the birds. Do you know the name of that first one? Thanks for taking us on the short kayak tour.

South Florida I have been to less frequently than the north Florida beaches. Would very much like to go to mangrove area again. The wildlife around Marco Island was something to see, for sure.

And, keep us posted!

4. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
It's cloudy this morning and I'm feeling lazy. How nice it is to be taken out into what I call 'real' Florida without having to leave home.

Your gatekeepers made me smile and your shots of the impenetrable roots of the mangroves are quite simply wonderful. There's a degree of difficulty between the brightness of the sky, the shade from the trees and the reflections off the water that is often hard to overcome, and you've done so beautifully.

I hope you continue to enjoy and share your visit.

5. Great sharp pics
I was thinking how 'creepy' those mangroves looked. Then someone mentions alligators? Holy crap. They could silently come up behind a kayak, lunge up, grab the kayaker and quietly move back below the surface with nary a ripple in the water and no more noise than a fish slapping up to the surface. ARE YOU INSANE!!!!

6. Spectacular!
I lived down in the Keys for a short while - I really miss the warmth, sunshine, wonderful people. I don't miss the hurricanes, tho. *wink
