2. Thankyou alfredo...
that shot is taken from underneath the Golden Gate, from The City side, at Fort Point.

3. Though it is probably a newer structure, the photo harks back
to the early to mid part of last century.

5. The GG Bridge was built in the 1930's, during the Great Depression.

10. The GG Bridge District keeps it lookin' good, alfredo...
Edited on Sun Nov-22-09 01:21 PM by Adsos Letter
according to the specs: "38 painters work on the bridge, along with 17 ironworkers who replace corroding steel and rivets." It helps explain (or, the GG District WISHES it would explain, since a bit over 19,000,000 crossings per year in the toll direction must account for some substantial revenue) the $6.00 toll they charge you ($3.00 per axle) for crossing it into The City (no charge for going the opposite, northerly, direction).

It is under constant maintenance because of the heavy fog and salt water it is exposed to. Still, the grayscale gives it a bit more of a pristine look than the color shot does.

4. Well, at least that bridge
isn't falling apart at the seams.

Our other bridge, not so good...

6. Yeah; plus that "S-curve" they added seems to be the source of a lot of accidents.

8. This is the sort of photo the much-missed F.Gordon used to enjoy.
So much for the eye to travel around here - light, dark and everything in between, great variety of lines and angles.

11. Beautiful
I can get completely lost in the intricacy, time and again.

What's also really cool about it is scrolling up or down, there's no weak or empty spot. Each 'section' gives the same sense of complexity, and when viewed in it's entirety, Wow.

I'm generally more of a 'natury-landscapy' sort of person, but you definitely got my attention with this.

again - beautiful.

14. I'm with Soup on this one.
I generally prefer landscapes, but you've really caught something here. It's so busy, lines going everywhere, it shouldn't work at all, it breaks all composition rules. But that's actually what makes it such a compelling shot.

16. Thanks intheflow! The grayscale really helped, as it has an entirely different fell in color...
as probably goes without saying. :hi:

the dark series of stripes in the upper third of the photo are the underside of the roadbed.

19. This appeals to me on so many levels......
.......it's black and white, loaded with the "geometry" of life, excellently composed......what's not to love about it?

Excellent work.
