Do any DU photogs have an old copy of Microsoft Picture It! installed or available?
I have two old pictures in the .mix format which is an outdated proprietary MS format. The product is no longer available, but these two pictures have great sentimental value, and I'd love to get them converted to jpg if anyone has the software.

There are NO aftermarket converters to be found that I've been able to track down.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

1. Try this freeware, ET. It should be able to handle a .mix file & convert it:

2. Thanks. I tried that yesterday and had no luck.
It will show me the thumbnail, but can't open the image itself.

Grrrrrr.

3. Try the computer support group
There are probably people there with lots of old computers (guessing).

5. No. Tried that too.
However, I may have just located a copy of Photo Draw which is another MS product that was part of the Office 2000 suite that might work.

8. Not in the list of supported images
The mix format doesn't appear to be in the list of supported image types when you pull up the open file dialog so it's probably not supported. I don't have any mix files to fully confirm this, though.

9. Per some online research, it might be possible
Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 02:41 AM by qnr
A .MIX file is a file Microsoft Photo Draw 2000 which the image file format for Office 2000.

You can read a .MIX file using software like Paint Shop Pro X and XnView.

You can also use OpenOffice.org

Edit: the xnview site shows that it does convert .mix http://www.xnview.com/en/formats.html

10. I probably have it on this computer, but here's the thing
This computer has over 55,000 files on it. So the search function is not going to find it unless I know the exact name of the "*exe" file.

if you find that out then I can look for you (It could be
"Microsoft Picture It.exe" or some variation of that.)

(I know it is on here somewhere because there is a shortcut to it, but if I click the shortcut, then it only says "File not found.)

11. Properties
Try right-clicking on the short-cut, select Properties. When the properties dialog pops up, look at what's in the "target" field. It probably has the name of the exe there.
