1. Seroiusly, JeffR
Skip the contest and run the DUzys on the Palin book and the Reebok ad. They are producing some glorious snarks.

But you don't want me taking over the contest either. Last time I did that, I screwed up royally.

Now back to your regularly scheduled contest comments.

8. You see now why I could post all my other contenders without a second thought.
I was in search of a little girl for THAT song.
I begged the Mom, besides the whirlpool at the Y, to please allow me to photograph her.

Afterwards I said:
"Oh what's her name?"

"Nevaeh. N e v a e h."

"What?"

"Well, it's Heaven spelled backwards."

I knew then my entry was in my camera.

32. I took at least 10 shots in 2 min. It was hard to chose which to post. I sent most of
them to her family, and they are thrilled.
I explained what I would do with the photo, and how the name cinched it before I even saw the pictures.
If she gets into the finals I will send them a link to watch.
I think her beauty is classic.

10. This is going to be an awesome contest. The signs are all over it already.
As I see it, a person can choose a favorite, and then find a song to go with it, and as a result the field is wide open to exemplary photos.
I can't wait to see more of them. Each and every one of them is fascinating and tells about the photographer.

13. Each one coming in is more fascinating. It's because we don't have a common
theme, we have no idea what to expect, except what the photographer thinks is beautiful.
And yes, I LOVE "Whiter Shade of Pale". It is gorgeous.

15. I had wanted my wedding dress to be like that. I wound up with a gorgeous Victorian style by
Jessica McClintock (remember Gunne Sax prom gowns? :)) It was friendlier to a plumpish figure anyway.

I used to subscribe to "Victoria" magazine and it was filled with gorgeous pictures like "Whiter Shade."

19. This contest theme drove me absolutely nuts

I was all over the place. I was going to submit one of my niece, but my sister doesn't want me sharing her photo in contests (brat), so my choice pic was shot down.

I ended up with the fire shot just because I love fire shots and this one as especially interesting with the ribbons of flames.

Anyway, the variety is interesting to see with all the different photos. And, they are all great.

23. I forgot-Whiter Shade of Pale,
by Procol Harem
This is one of my favorite songs, so as I went through my photo collection, I was happy to find a photo that "fit".
I had to make the little shadow around the photo because the light coming in the window is as white as this background.
This was taken at the Cottage Museum in Oaks Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard, MA last summer. The rooms are all furnished with period pieces - it's a fun plce to visit. The cottages originated as tents so when they started to build them from wood, they kept the same qualities as the original fabric tents. They're all tiny and painted in whimsical colors.

Here's another photo of the room...

30. Since I have been here the contest "green" was the toughest and most hard
fought over.
This one has the potential to leave that one in the dust.
It's because people can choose their best and favorites, and because the subject matters are all over the map.
I repeat myself because this is so exciting.

34. Titles
I think this one is especially interesting (maybe agonizing?) because unlike the other contests, the title matters. Not nearly as much as the photo, but it has taken on much more importance. The fact that any given image probably has several alternate titles adds yet another complication.

Got home from my trip last night and my computer was toast; crispy around the edges, even. Bought something new about half an hour ago but am using someone else's computer right now. I took possession today of a new NEC color-calibrated monitor and until tomorrow, I have nothing to attach it to. Also, 2 phones are dying and a light switch broke. I've had better days.

I did consider Space Truckin' by Deep Purple..

And for my Earthshine pic, Big Bad Moon by Joe Satriani.

Or maybe RC Cola and a Moon Pie by NRBQ (new rhythm and blues quartet).

But I thought another Moon pic wouldn't be a good idea after Bad Moon Rising.

86. It's really interesting how if you track the stars so they are just dots you don't see much color..
Leave the camera still though and let the stars streak with the motion of the Earth and the colors really show up.

The colors have to do with the temperature of the various stars, more massive stars tend to be hotter and more blue while smaller stars tend to be cooler and more yellow to orange, our sun would be yellowish in that picture.

Most of the red stars you see though are also large but they are late in their lifespans and have turned into red giants, something our sun will do in about five billion years or so at which point the Earth will be vaporized as the sun expands to engulf it.

isn't too hard:

140. Not sure about flickr
I'm not sure if you can do it with flickr but with photobucket, uploading retains the original image name. So, if you're using photobucket, all you would need to do is to delete the original, then upload the updated version making sure the name is the same as the original.
There are others using flickr so they may be able to help you.
