1. Wonder what the R-rating is on that insulation? Amazing how many different
textures you can find in that house (I'm guessing the other is a different view of this one).

2. Yup; it's the other side. There were a bunch of houses built into the rock in Martigny.
Private buildings. I would have loved to have gone in and seen how the interior structure worked; cave into the hillside perhaps?

3. I'd think so. That's how some of the ones I visited in Italy were built (well,

cut-outs, not really caves).

4. The open window is like a cave mouth
appropriately.

5. That's what I was thinking too. I think it works well, it draws me
deeper into the photo, trying to imagine what's in there.

Ah...what's "in there" if you look closely enough are a bunch of jinked-around pixels. I had some unfortunate glare to deal with, so I manipulated things in that space a bit...

I don't have the technical skills the rest of you have; never claimed to, and often admit it. :) Digital Image Pro 10 is my necessary friend.

7. Don't sell yourself short, your photographs are wonderful. The implication was not
that you had meticulously arranged the photo, trying to achieve a textbook perfection, but that the elements worked well together.

While many of the people here do seem to have amazing technical knowledge, others of us (especially me) just love to shoot (and shoot (and shoot)). Basically "itchy shutter release finger syndrome." Digital is great for that. Shooting 400 photos in a day is no more expensive (in money, not time) than shooting ten. Digital gives you EXIF and other metadata that you can look at later to see what settings worked and what didn't (heck of a lot easier than carrying around a notepad or one of those highfalutin' voice recorders from the film days. :) Lots of knowledgeable people online too, so you just pick up good-to-know stuff without even realizing it.
