I can't let Blue_in_AK have all the fun ...
I am sure you are all sick of Aiman pictures ... but these are more action shots and required some serious contortions on my part to get ... So I think they must qualify as high art!

I am not savvy enough to post pictures here yet ... so if you are interested in more shots of Blue_in_AK's grandbabies, go to:

5. Hey!
I just found this forum - thanks to my pal Mira - and now I feel like I know your marvelous daughter! Her blog is just wonderful, and your grandson is - yes - the most beautiful baby ever.

He's certainly got gorgeous parents, but he's also going to have a wicked sense of humor.

Get ready, Granny!!!!

This is the best group on DU. :)

And thanks for the kind comments about my beautiful grandson and my very funny daughter. I should add that dad is pretty funny, too -- he's really the best son-in-law a "mum" could have. It cracks me up when he calls me "Kristina's mum," with that Australian accent.

7. I had no idea -
Mira told me, and I do everything Mira tells me to do. :)

I worked my way through college as a photographer, and got some serious pix I should post here. It is a great place, that's obvious.

Now, I gotta go check your blog - you mentioned pictures there, and I just now remembered.

Senility - it's not for the timid.................... :hi:

8. Oh, yes, I do have many, many pictures.
But, yikes, if you worked your way through college as a photographer, my humble photos may not be worthy.

9. What a GREAT site!!!!
I'm gonna have a hell of a time going over that one, photo by photo. You're also a real cutie (just as I pictured you!)! What a fabulous site, and if you hadn't mentioned it, I (hereafter known as "DUH!") would never have thought to check it out.

You take amazing photographs, Blue. You've got what we used to call That Eye. You know what I mean.

I was a portrait photographer, very casual, all black and white. I did it all myself - bought film in bulk (cheaper), rolled it myself, developed, did all the darkroom work up to 16 x 20". A lot of kids, and a lot of senior citizens. Working in the darkroom was a marvelous education in terms of learning about artistic control, which later came in handy when I took up writing - you have to know exactly where to burn and cut, where to crop, and what contact prints are never going to make it into the finished product.

But the best thing I learned - and it's translated wonderfully to the digital age - is to take as many shots as possible. I used a Nikon with an autowinder, and since film was so cheap, it was nothing for me to take 300 shots for one job. Maybe I'd get four or five really extraordinary shots out of that number.

It was so much fun. It was so easy. But, digital has changed everything, hasn't it? Made it all even easier. I miss the smell of the chemicals.

Sometimes, an interesting photo is just a matter of perspective......................

13. You get around, don't ya?
I just checked my camera. This place will do it to you, huh? Ordered a new battery, which I should have done a long time ago.

Great place, indeed.

So, how's the packing going? Are you itching to get going?

14. Yes, I'm itching to get going!
First step is the hardest, tho! I HATE dealing with the small things! Fortunately, my current landlord is VERY helpful. I think our relationship will profit from this change!

PS, My old camera may be dead dead, but prolly won't take the time to check it out for a while!

I had an uncle who lived in Yellow Springs (Ohio, I assume?) All my family lived in the Wilmington area when I was young.

21. Was your uncle with Antioch College?
That was the big industry in YSO.

I married a professor there, as an undergrad at another school, so I transferred, and was a student/faculty wife. Try THAT once or twice. In the late sixties. Bizarre doesn't even begin to describe it.

I have photos from Yellow Springs. Gotta find them............

24. No, he had been a farmer
and grew strawberries down in Clinton County. Later when he got MS (and a new wife), he moved into Yellow Springs where I believe he lived until he died sometime in the '80s. You probably knew Xenia, too, which is where my stepmother came from. She was a nurse at the Greene County Hospital, and my grandfather was the hospital administrator.

25. Xenia!
The country seat. We got our marriage license in Xenia, and years later, when we had hit a rough patch, a tornado hit Xenia, damaging the courthouse, and I wondered if maybe our records had disappeared, and would that save me from having to divorce him.

Greene County. I loved living there, back then. Now, I don't know

Small world, Blue, isn't it?

blew away in that tornado (if you're talking about the one in the '70s that wiped out the whole town), although I'm happy to say Grandma and Grandpa had moved to Florida by then.

It is indeed a small world.

Speaking of divorces, I procrastinated divorcing my first husband for five years after we had separated in 1970. I finally decided to finalize the thing when I wanted to get married again, went back down to San Francisco where I had filed to take care of it, and later learned that my ex had been murdered eight months before. I DIVORCED A DEAD MAN!! I could have saved myself some trouble, too. :)

Talking about pizza in 'cooking' group, Tangelo mentioned Ohio, and I mentioned my relations with the state! College, and marriage.

18. Thank you so much.
The smell of those chemicals is a very early memory for me, as well, as my dad had a small darkroom in our house when I was little girl back in the early '50s. He was just an amateur photographer himself, but I've got some beautiful old black and whites of me and my brothers that have managed to survive. In fact, I've been meaning to scan a few to post here because my dad had "the eye," too.

I am the keeper of the family photos, and there are zillions of dad's slides and prints stashed around here. I know he would have loved modern photography, but unfortunately he passed away in 1994 before the digital age.

As for me, I never learned photography before digital, except for point and shoot snapshots. All of that stuff about apertures and f/stops, light meters, etc., always seemed much too complicated for me, and I was afraid to try. For me, digital photography has opened up a whole new world.

17. There is no way I could ever be sick of Aiman pictures. It seems we were just
yesterday waiting for his birth, and now we know him and love him and he knows how to drool and smile.

Your commentary and insights are priceless.

I thank you. Don't stop sharing with us.
