Between storms.
Edited on Sun Jan-18-09 01:28 AM by Blue_In_AK
Our weather has been a roller coaster ride for about a month now -- lots of snow, record cold, ice, record warm, epic melt, hurricane-force winds, rain -- but today was perfect. Clear, in the 40s, and calm. Of course, I suddenly have work after about a month's break -- of course -- but since it's supposed to snow tomorrow, I made time for the sunset.

The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail.

The parking lot at Point Worozof was full. Everybody had the same idea -- get outside while you can. :)

My hometown.

It was so nice not to have freezing fingers, but walking on the watery ice was a hazardous venture. I guess you can't have everything. :)

1. Snarky Sarah on a Unicycle, Blue
I was just going to post some pics and stopped to look at yours first. That's a beautiful sky in the first one, but the barbed wire is too metaphorical for the Bush Era.:scared:

As for the rest, the beauty you've caught, huge mountains, huge spaces, is beyond any carping, even from a curmudgeon. They're just extraordinary shots.

in my scenic shots, but, as you say, the metaphor was just too good here.

Before 9-11 we could go out to Pt. Woronzof (which is immediately adjacent to the airport) 24 hours a day; now there's a guard out there after 11:00 p.m., even in the summer -- when the sun's still up -- and he won't let you through. Never mind that you can walk right into the same area on the Coastal Trail with no problem. It makes no sense to me.

3. I've deliberately avoided stats on the DHS & TSA budget
for almost a year. It was one small way I could think of not to fly into a volcanic rage and vaporize myself in a fountain of pissed-off atoms. I marvel that I've survived the Bush years, and I'm an expatriate living in a comparatively sane host country.

6. Sanity is a relative term.
We've all got our quirks.

5. Actually in this particular case,

I think the fence and barbed wire are probably there to keep the moose out as much as keeping out potential terrorists. A moose on the runway is probably as bad as a goose in the engine.

7. Eeek!
Moose on the runway! There's a scary thought.

Great scenic shots, Blue. I really like the last one, with the curve of the water and the light hitting the city.
