Thanksgiving is late this year; the 27th...
Should I be trying to finish the November contest before that week or do people have more leisure to vote during the holiday?

1. Just me
but I'd say before is better. Gotta leave some time for the next contest to find a theme etc...

2. I think I'll give the calendar poll a day or two...
and then ask for suggestions.
Is anyone doing an Autumn contest?

4. I think I can ask for suggestions in a couple of days...
without running over the calender.

5. Calendar will be finished by Oct 30th at the absolute latest
so that should be okay.

Don't forget that the seasonal contest (Autumn, naturally) starts Nov. 1st.

:hi:

6. So I think I should start in a couple of days getting...
suggestions and get a jump start on November, or we will get confused with the seasonal contest. The structure of the calender vote is so different that I don't think people will confuse that with anything else.

7. that sounds about right
I'm not sure of the seasonal contest structure off the top of my head, but usually we start collecting submissions on Nov. 1st and the submissions stay open for about a week and then we have the contests - with the aim to be done by the middle of the month. If you had a theme in place for the monthly contest by Nov. 1st, with a week or two shooting time, then open submissions during the seasonal polls, I don't think it would be a problem.

The other thing you can do, if you prefer, is to combine the Nov/Dec contests and have submissions through the second half of Nov. and hold the contests in the beginning half of Dec. There is a precedent for this, and it's not a terrible idea, since people start to disappear during December (and we generally hold a holiday lights exhibition thread in Dec. as well). The winner would then host the Jan. contest. It cuts down on all of the polls during the next two months, and helps keep GD from poll fatigue. It's just an idea to think about.

Just a quick reminder...
