Both are excellent lenses though. I've played a bit with the Canon before and liked it quite a bit :).

3. A use for it you may not have thought of..

50mm, being considered the "normal" (and therefore often boring) perspective for 35mm cameras, have always been relatively cheap, even the really fast ones, but digital cameras bring these cheap fast lenses to new life.

On a digital camera with a 1.5 conversion factor (due to smaller than 35mm chip size), a 50mm becomes the visual equivalent of a 75mm..... which makes it just long enough to use for portraiture. And with a 1.8 f-stop, you can more easily make your focus shallow for effect.
