Drummers in Golden Gate Park
Edited on Thu May-05-05 11:55 PM by Blue_In_AK
Quite by accident we happened to be in Golden Gate Park at 4:20 on 4/20 for a massive party. Through the fog of marijuana smoke :smoke: I took this picture of the drummers getting down... A wonderful time was had by all.

1. My wife used to go to Ghiradelli Square to watch the drummers.
She was MC of the open mic at a bar nearby. She'd go there before work.

BTW, nice picture.

2. Nice, reminds me of the folks gathering around to watch
A Firesign Theatre performance in Golden Gate Park in another era. Some of those old values and vibes still survive.

3. I know...
I lived on Haight and Broderick in 1969 and had many, many good times in the Park. It did my heart good to see the traditions continuing.

4. I lived on Pine and California when the first glimmerings
of change were beginning to appear, in the early '60's. Lenny Bruce at the Hungry i, City Lights Bookstore, Kesey in Palo Alto, espresso cafes and jazz, nude bars on North Beach, and an atmosphere where the love of freedom and sense of shared humanity was paramount. Sometimes it is easy to miss, given the media, but that same sense of communality is still present today, and we see it in gatherings like that in Golden Gate Park, and in Folkfest or Hempfest or just a weekend day at Seattle Center here in Seattle.

6. Wow, Cons, you ARE an original...
I often joke to people that I was a "first-wave" hippie, but when you were out there in the City living the life, I was a mere goody-two-shoes high school student in Houston, Texas. I didn't get on board until 1966 or so. I bow to you... :yourock:

7. I've been very fortunate in the experiences I have had (mostly).
Did my time in small towns in the bible belt before escaping to a college with a work-study option that let me spend half of the time living in and experiencing life in several cities, then the chance to wander Europe and Asia, etc. The butchery in Vietnam was more decisive in shaping my choices than the cultural uprising being waged by you "kids," although I was never one of those who saw these movements as alternatives. Same struggle, same fight, different terrains.

5. Having a good time--wish I were there
We don't even have leaves on the trees yet.

I have taken a few workshops in African drumming here--used to have a Djembe. I love it when a group gets together and drums
