One of my kids has his photos on display in a gallery at a Whole Foods store (they do displays where their employees can showcase their art, and he was invited to put up his pix) and has sold a few (the month is still young). He has a deep love of nature and the plant world in particular (he is an herbal shaman), and I bought him a 5MP digital camera a few years ago. He doesn't know zip about digital processing, and made uncorrected prints on cheap color printer (until it died), but his passion for his subject still comes through and his photos are very compelling.
Apart from the boast, it is a reminder that although classes in composition and editing can be helpful, and even trial and error learning can always improve things, the connection to the subject is what makes good photos more than snapshots. We see this in the work of a number of people who have posted here. So don't be intimidated by the tech talk. Good work is good work, A little tweaking may yield some improvements, but the original has to express that connection in the first place.
So, especially for those who think that they need to be "experts" before participating in this forum, drop that idea. Please regard this as a place to share your passions for your subjects, and get a little feedback about how your photos might best communicate that passion to others. We share tips and tricks, we will have different views about what we like, but the most important thing is that it is a place where we all can give a bit to one another and at the same time learn a bit from one another.
