Hooo Boy! Now I did it.
Today I quit vacillating and took the plunge. I bought a Canon XTi and a 28-135 lens w/stabilization. It's my first new SLR since I bought a Pentax Spotmatic in Hong Kong in 1973. This one has a lot more buttons.

I agonized over the choice between the Canon and the Nikon D80. Opinions on the two seemed really close but Canon seemed to be a marginal favorite for someone who doesn't already own Nikon lenses. The Canon setup cost slightly more because only the kit with a 28-55 lens was available at my local store. I won't need the 28-55 and may be able to sell it.

This camera represents a year's worth of "medigap" insurance so I'll have to get a lot of use from it in a hurry -- before I get shipped off to the county farm.

1. I'm "hearing" nothing but good things about that camera
And ya' got a very good lens. Should be quite a fun transition for you. Hope ya' stop back and post some pixies.

"Medigap"? Shit, for what we pay for "medifuckinggapinghole" insurance I could buy a digital Hassey. Nevermind that our carrier just dumped all the medical facilities we've used for years.
:grr:

2. While I don't know that camera very well...
...I'd keep the lens if I were you. Image stabilization is quite addictive...I got sold on my KM5D when I tested it out at the camera store and got a tack-sharp image of the store's interior, shooting handheld at 1/15s.

3. Congrats.
The XTi may be the best buy on today's market. This camera is capable of producing the same quality photos as cameras costing 3-4 times (or more).

10mp
2.5" viewing screen
self cleaning sensor
Canon quality and durability

Looking foreward to pix posts.
:hi:

4. Some of my first
pictures with it. Our band was playing on a riverboat and I missed a lot of good shots.

Jus' kidding. Love the eyes peeking out of the bag. You live up near bvar22. Hope you can stop playing music for awhile and catch some of the awesome fall colors you have in your neck of the woods.
