Please help! Photobucket resizing problem
Photobucket has changed the way they resize photos. Although I've done everything from refreshing my screen to deleting cookies and temp files to resizing the photo 3 times, I can't see any difference in a giant photo's size. Here's my post in question: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x2137927#2139005

I won't tell you which photo shows up huge on my screen, because I want to see if you all can peg it. Likewise, if one photo seems freakishly small (which this photo should, given how many times I resized it), please let me know.

Thanks! :hi:

1. Perhaps we should have a bug contest!
Your pic, FL in June, is the smallest for me.

Your pic, Denver in July, is the largest (and that's one butt-ugly big bug!).

BTW, you take great shots, itf!

2. OK, FL in June is the problem child!
It is HUGH!!111!1 on my screen. I figure it must be slightly larger than an avatar at this point. I don't understand why rfreshing my screen doesn't work. Very frustrating!

And thanks for the praise, but I don't think I'm really that good. I just take a million photos of any given subject and with that many to choose from, finding the 5-10 I post here it makes it look like I'm good. LOL. Also, I keep photos for forever. The last photo in that thread is, like, 8 years old, scanned in from a film photo. From one of my first dates with usedtbesick. :)

3. Yup. 'FL in June' is 320px X 213px on my monitor

Sounds like a browser cache problem to me.

7. How would I go about correcting a browser cache problem?
I mean, isn't that what refresh is supposed to do, clear your cache?

9. "Refresh" just reloads the HTML info from the website.
Your browser then uses the HTML instructions there to create what you see on your computer. But when some of the data is already cached on your computer (such as "http://.photobucket\mypicture.jpg") it uses that old data instead of reloading the file. This is generally a good idea, since stuff gets loaded much faster off the hard drive than off the net. Clearing the cache will force the computer to reload everything from the original (net) source, and thus get the new version of "http://.photobucket\mypicture.jpg". In Firefox the option to clear the cached data is under Tools/Options/Privacy,

11. So in Explorer,
is clearing the cache the same as deleting files or cookies under the Tools/Internet Options?

10. Since I use Mozilla, I merely 'View Image' and Reload
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 10:32 AM by TahitiNut
Since Mozilla is so well-behaved, that works for me every time. If I'm viewing a page with seveeral images I wish to refresh, I hold the Shift key down and click on Reload. While once upon a time I periodically flushed the cache (using the 'Preferences' menu), I find that Mozilla has becom so well-behaved in cache management that it's unnecessary. (Internet Explorer only makes me angry, so I use it as infrequently as possible.)

I've had my cache set to 256MB for some time now and I find it's quite adequate, even given all the images I get from this group.

4. Do you have a "Pro" account?
I saw this little bit of news on the photobucket site posted yesterday....

1. You can now select "1 Megabyte" and "2 Megabyte" max file sizes. If you do your own resizing or have very odd file sizes and don't want us touching your images, select one of these

I never upload many files over 100K. Do my own resizing so I've never experienced the problems you are having.

You, or anyone else, can use the group smugafug account. Just setup a private gallery and use it the same way you'd use a photobucket account. I bounce back and forth (from group smugmug to photobucket) just to keep my photobucket "active". I think it goes bye-bye after awhile.

6. I had a paid account.
Not pro, but not free. My subscription ran out about a week ago. I'm not sure if the two problems are related. Maybe I'll use the smugbug; I've met more and more artists (photo & otherwise) who are using that site.

5. That's why my peppers were so small last month's contest
I could not for the life of me get Photoshop and Photobucket to coordinate correctly.

Keine Ahnung?
