Picasa for organizing digital photos
I've been looking for a good software for organizing my digital photos, and saw some recommendations on photo sites for picasa. It's a terrifically intuitive program (with some very good editing tools), and it's free.

http://picasa.google.com/

Anyone moving from film to digital would be wise to get an orgazing program early. I learned that the hard way.

Is picasa widely used by digital photographers?

1. I tried it at one time
I tried it some time ago, back before they were bought by Google. I tried several programs and ended up staying with Thumbs Plus, even though you have to pay for it after the initial trial period. I don't remember now why I decided against Picasa, but the features that I was most concerned about then were keeping a database of keywords for photos and ease and flexibility in creating slide shows from photos, particularly being able to select photos for a slide show based on combinations of keywords.

If you have a clear idea of what kinds of capabilities you want in your organizing software, maybe people here could give you a good idea of how well Picasa (or other software) does those capabilities.

2. I am pleased with it
enables even the kids to crop and adjust photos, too.
Easy to burn CDs.
One of the best freebies in town, IMO.
