Twisted, the Full Monty

The eucalyptus is in Montana de Oro State Park in Los Osos. Twisted, the Full Monty actually isn't in the running, but I wanted you all to see this amazing tree. (Actually that one may be another next to the first one.) I haven't found anyone who can tell me why these trees have grown this way. Others across the highway are normal eucalyptus. I can only guess that the winds from the sea have misshapen them. As with all eucalyptus in California, they were imported from Australia and planted for lumber after the early settlers destroyed most of the redwoods in the interests of building. Cat tree is probably cheatiing, but it's such a great pic.

2. I like both the first and second ones,

but I like Full Monty best. The first one is too dark on my screen, I like that I can see some detail in the naked version. :evilgrin:

The last photo is cute, but it's more about the cat than the tree, imo.

3. I think the reason it appears dark is because he saved it using

the Adobe RGB color space instead of the sRGB color space. This will typically result in darker images and reduced tonal range in any program but Adobe. Some slight curve adjustments and changing the color space to sRGB REALLY brightens up the image. I'd post an edited version, but don't want to step on any toes.

4. Thanks for the info

I'm set up as Adobe RGB based on a Nikon seminar that I took. Camera and PhotoShop are set for that. Also, I did some editing in Capture NX, which might have affected it. Post your version and let's compare. I might go back to the unedited version, which I thought was a little wimpy, but maybe not.

6. Converted to sRGB and used "LAB Color" tweak as I described

in the new thread I just posted (almost exactly the same adjustments, levels, shadow/hilight, lab color curves, convert back to sRGB and save as jpg). Although it looks like I went overboard with the curves adjustment and ended up with the saturation too intense. Sorry about that.

5. I disagree with your conclusions re: AdobeRGB vs. sRGB...

...but the fact remains that sRGB is the web-display standard, browsers are optimized for it, and viewing any image over the web in a different color space won't look as good.

This is why, when I reduce an image for web display, my last step before "Save for Web" is always to convert the profile to sRGB but only for the web version. For all other purposes, keeping the image in AdobeRGB gives me superior quality compared to sRGB.
