2. Your front yard looks familiarly Spenardian.

Hi, neighbor. :hi: The way you learn how to use the camera is just keep practicing like this one whatever you can find and ask a lot of questions here in the PhotoGroup because there are some really smart people here, who are also great photographers.

ed. Hey, I could have sworn there was a picture of Spenard there a minute ago.

14. Definitely get it out of "auto mode"...
...if, by that, you mean the dreaded "green mode" (so called because the setting on the control dial is outlined in green).

I'd recommend you get a copy of Bryan Peterson's Understanding Digital Photography and pay close attention, especially, to his chapters on Aperture and Shutter Speed. He also wrote an entire book on exposure, but the chapters in the first book are pretty much a shorter summary of the latter volume, and so would make for a quicker start.

15. Bryan Peterson rocks.
I bought that exposure book and the one that was sold with it on Amazon (at F. Gordon's suggestion). I really learned a lot about a lot of stuff.

6. You have a good eye, and a great camera!
I'm looking foreward to more pics from you.

"Nikonians" is a good site for info on your camera. I gleaned alot specific "good to know" info from them.
There is a special group for D50 users:

7. Oh.... you got the Nikon. I thought you were getting the Fuji
That whole megapixel thing from before.... now I understand.

I'd say you have the "figuring out" part all figured out. Just keep taking photographs and you'll be figuring out all kinds of other things. Rule One: Have Fun. I really like the first one. The balance of color.. don't know if that was intentional or not but if anyone asks say.. "why, of course it was".
:hi:

9. Just keep practicing.
And yes, you do want to get out of Auto mode. I think a lot photographers these days spend their time in 'A' mode. I know that's where mine is probably 95% of the time.

Mine look exactly like that. So - what are your predictions for our winter this year? Lots of snow to continue the unending rain scenario? Are you getting as tired of this as I am?

13. It would seem that way,
but I doubt it. I think we're going to have a cold one with LOTS of snow. (I just hope it waits until after our Denali trip next month).
