1. I had to resort to the eeny-meany-miney-moe method
I couldn't choose between the purple pod and the green pods. Hope I chose the best one!

2. I really like the purple rod picture
I don't think there is a choosing the wrong picture, you always go with what you feel is the strongest or what you tend to like.

I think we're gonna lose to the snake anyway.. he's gonna just gobble us up, unless anyone has a mongoose photo named Rikki-Tiki-Tavi

9. I like it also.
It has 3 different gradients of "texture" on the 3 trees.
The other B&W caught my eye too (Rain on Pavement?).
It also has 3 different gradients of "texture".

RaginMiami posted something about the Power of 3's to another thread.
I think he is on to something.

This is going to be an interesting contest. Already 15 entries.
I'm sorta glad I get to duck this one.

10. You know...
...I tend to react with cynicism to the posts you get every month about how "this is the best group of entries ever" or "every photo in the contest is great."

Well, so far, I'm going to have to dump my cynicism and say that this is one of the best group of entries ever, and every photo in the contest is great!

I'll admit that I have pretty strong suspicions, based on the entries received to date, as to which one will be the eventual winner. But the voting on this should be quite interesting to watch.

The competition is very tough this month, and I really can't begin to guess which one the Lounge Lizards will pick. I bet the voting will be more even this month than usual.

29. Not sure about the "more even"...
Edited on Fri Aug-18-06 03:15 AM by regnaD kciN
...but think it may be unpredictable.

The reason I don't think you'll ever see a "more even" result in these contests is the "bandwagon mentality" evidenced time and again by Lounge Lizards. Once two or three photos open up a distance over the other choices, almost all votes go to them, as people don't want to "waste their vote" on something that doesn't have a chance of winning.

Generally, by a day or so into the balloting, it will have narrowed down to a two-entry (or, in very rare cases, three-entry) race, and, from then on, practically no votes will go to any of the "stragglers."

So, I don't think the voting will be any closer than usual, but there are a lot more entries that have a chance of making the "fast start" that will keep them on top from then on.

The only way of changing this pattern of a fast elimination for most entries, IMHO, would be if the board software was updated so as not to show the results of a poll until the member had already voted.

31. I still think the snake is going to
whip everyone. There are some great entries and I could be wrong about this but I think you'll see the snake get the majority of the votes and whip everyone in that goes in that category. I think it's a slam dunk.

My husband who makes a small living as a photographer saw that picture and said.. honey you had my vote until I saw the snake (lol!!)

Like my piddly little leaf is going to be blowing in the Breeze since "the snake" is right below me.. lol

so while the other 2 polls with the other photos might do alright, I think whoever gets stuck with snake is going to just get eaten.

since you can vote twice more in the two other polls so you can vote for 3 of your favorites not just one. In this case that will be a blessing.

But I could be eating my hat at the end of month, I just feel like The snake is going to rule supreme, unless they have some bibical objection

36. Yep I think the Snake is the one to beat
Technically its a very sound picture.. good lighting .. great color and it's a nice tight shot.. no excess laying about.

but any time you post a picture in the lounge it's a magic 8 ball.. "the future outcome is uncertain"!

But I still think it's in the bag on this one.

11. "12-hour miracle"...
...is a very nice photo, but what I find especially interesting about it is that the exact same flower (species...I don't mean the same particular blossom!) was used by GiovanniC for his "Tie Dye" entry back in the June 2005 "Flowers" contest.

Different composition, different intent, and very different images...but the same rather-unusual subject.

16. It looks like we aren't alone. Dpreview just started a texture comp.
There's a few pictures so far. Some are pretty cool. I think we have some great ones in our forum as well. I got frustrated enough to come in after a day of work and sit down and take a shot of my pants. Then I found the picture I was going to enter. Doh! It's ok. We're having fun.

19. A cave ...

Mystic Caverns to be precise. A whole series of caves running from Arkansas up through Missouri was opened up eons ago under a fault line, and in one part of the cave you can actually look up and see the fault and even how it has moved more recently if you look closely enough.

It's actually damp rock formations in the cave. I took about 20 shots of the same formation from different angles, using different exposures, sensor sensitivity, different manners of lighting (available, standard flash, delayed strobe). I got that one and cropped it to take out people and dark areas. It ends up looking like slime flowing (at least to me), and the reflection of light makes it look wetter than it is and creates an illusion of flowing slime.

Like a lot of people, I struggled with this one but wanted to enter something, and this certainly has texture to it. Seeing the other entries, I'll feel lucky if I get a single vote, if for no other reason than the grossness factor. I still thought it was cool. :-)

Almost called it Lord of the Slime 'cause the tops of some of the formations above the flow sorta look like lordly figures watching over everything.

The other one I consider was of what's called "cave bacon." It's a formation that looks a bit like bacon when light shines through it. The best pics I had, though, were a bit too dark, and, well, the way the formations appeared could have been taken for a representation of some part of female anatomy, so I decided against it.

24. LOL!
Thanks. I've been pretending to be busy, which actually takes up a lot of time. :D

These are the kind of pictures you get when your lifestyle involves coming home to your friends splayed out on improvised tables, gettin' bargain tattoos from a (to them, at least) famous artist who happened to be visiting out here.

The guy did like 9 really neat tattoos in the 24 hours he was here, several in my kitchen. I declined, myself. ;)

and asked him to resize his submission.

The contest guidelines limit submissions to no more than 800 pixels on the longest side, and not more than 200KB in size.

I like the pic too, but it is too big (1045pixels X 699kb).

46. To put my comment to you
earlier in better words, people will vote for your pic because it is a very good pic. Though I wouldn't blame anyone torn between a couple pics to vote for one from someone that is so nice to everyone. I should not try to type late at night while recovering from painting in a small enclosed space.
